Better yet, get the state out of the business of issuing marriage licenses.
We have opt-out in NC (recently became law).
You will not be able to opt out. A homosexual can force you to do business -- they will bankrupt you and destroy you if you try to opt out.
All the strategies come together, like they have a plan. Because they do.
Churches can render this irrelevant tomorrow by simply refusing to solemnize any and all state “marriages.”
Caesar has defined his sodomite marriage, let him solemnize it.
One guy on the national stage that isnt afraid to stand against this.
SCOTUS has written in its own power from the start, and we have allowed them to live out this fantasy that was never granted to it by the founders. They have grown fat and happy with their lifetime appointments, and hubris has rotted out the legitimacy we have as allocated to it because we have bought the myth that they are an impartial group that would never engage in such naked disregard to the constitution.
Dred Scott, Row v. Wade, and Kelo, along with a slew of others, shows us that this band of demented idiots cannot simply exist as a virtual council of lords with no recourse outside of a constitutional amendment. They can deiced 5-4 to upend out civilization, but we have to win 2/3rds votes in two houses of Congress and then 2/3rd of all the states to fix it?
This farce needs to end. Cruz should make it a cornerstone of his run.
someone in the government said that the clerks who refused must resign...
Sadly, I don’t believe there will ever be any option for someone doing a “government” job (from city/town to county to state to federal) ever being able to “opt out” of doing a homosexual marriage because they have legitimate religious objections. That has and will continue to be an indignity of holding such employment. It isn’t right, but that is the nature of the beast. It makes me sick to my soul to have to concede that. It will take a new POTUS (like Cruz) that has the backing of a House and Senate to change this. Until then....?
What MOST concerns me are “private businesses” being harassed by ANY level of government because they refuse to offer services to homosexuals if it conflicts with their religious beliefs. That is clearly an infringement of 1st Amendment rights. IF homosexuals want to boycott a business...so be it. However, NO level of government bureacrate should aid and abeit such a thing. Any level of government that has or attempts to force a business to violate 1st Amendment beliefs (or passes any such legislation to do so) is violating the COTUS and should be themselves prosecuted. On this point stand firm.
BTW - God Bless both Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee for taking strong stands on this issue. May God protect them both.
I think the county clerk in Parker County, TX is already testing that theory
End all this foolishness. Charge same sex couples $200,000 for a marriage license.
If Barry Soetoro can ignore the Law, so too can We (for the next 18 months)
Did Cruz say that?
Factoid:
Rat Romney (GOP, carpetbagger) began this entire thing
by FORCING Clerks to obey him and start gay marriage.
Why would the state of Texas even put the clerks in a position of having to choose? The state is trying to have it both ways, follow the order as if it was legitimate, but allow individuals to steer clear of the state's acquiescence.
Muslims taxi drivers try this crap all the time. If no one can do anything because of political correctness, nothing will get done. Everything is going to offend someone somehow.
He should work on getting the law changed, not joining the "I can't do my job because I am offended" crowd. The DMV line is long enough without some Atheist refusing to serve me because of his beliefs.
“We should respect diversity and tolerance,” Cruz added. “There is this liberal intolerance and fascism that seeks to force Bible-believing Christians to violate their faith, and I think it makes no sense.”
Cruz in the first round...by a Knockout!!
It’s not just Texas where this is going to be an issue.
Here are three articles about a deputy clerk in my county (first from a conservative Christian magazine, then a response from a liberal organization, and then the Christian magazine editor’s response with links to other coverage).

This could blow up in our county soon. A homosexual couple tried to get a marriage license on Friday in our county and was denied. We’ll see what happens Monday.
Our state governor is a Democrat who (if media reports are correct) has told our state’s circuit court clerks to issue gay marriage licenses. That means our clerks cannot expect the protections which a Texas clerk may have.
Personally I’m conflicted on this issue. The clerks are administrative officials; I’m not at all sure we want them making policy or refusing to enforce laws. I sympathize with the argument that a Mennonite or Quaker clerk might refuse to issue gun permits, or a Muslim clerk might refuse to issue a liquor license. The difference is that in those cases, the voters would probably throw the clerk out of office in most counties. In our county, I have little doubt that a clerk who ran on a “no gay marriage” platform could win by a landslide.
To make matters more complicated, the supervisor of the deputy clerk profiled in this article is a conservative Democrat who has served for years, generally got re-elected by large margins, just last November won re-election by a large majority over a Republican, and was almost the only local Democrat to win last fall. I have no idea what she will do beyond defending her staff’s religious convictions. The elected circuit court clerk is herself a Southern Baptist, for whatever it may be worth, and many of her deputy clerks are evangelicals.
My guess is that sooner or later one of the deputy clerks in our county will agree to do the paperwork, but it may take some time to find one willing to do so.
