John Roberts: I … can’t help but think this decision opens the door to legal polygamy

What would have ever given Roberts that idea?

That’s a lot of gauzy schmaltz for a High Court decision, even by the more relaxed standards of the summing-up paragraphs in a majority opinion. The striking thing about Kennedy’s ruling isn’t that he came down the way he did, which was a mortal lock, but that he didn’t concern himself with trying to narrow the reasoning to meet the core objection of SSM opponents, that there’s no way to get traction on this slippery slope. “That would have been beyond the scope of the decision,” Kennedy fans will say; polygamy wasn’t at issue here so he had no business addressing it. True — he had no business addressing it explicitly. But he could have added language that he knew would be pointed back to later when polygamy inevitably lands before the Court. “Unlike some forms of marital relationships, a marriage of two members of the same sex is a partnership of equals” — something like that, or rhetoric about how other forms of marriage might be exploitative by their very nature. Anything to signal to polygamists that if they try to make their play at the Court anytime soon, they may not like which way Kennedy goes on that.

This whole thing looks scripted.

First he’s his traitorous self. Spits in the face of the Constitution, then insults us all with his BS explanation.

Then an hour later, this comes out, a phony vote when he knew the decision already.

He’s either being blackmailed, or he’s gay and afraid to come out of the closet. Or both.

Got me there. Isn’t having your morals and laws determined by special interest groups fun? Maybe they can solve this conundrum by implementing Sharia law. That allows for significantly less rights for infidels.

If you lived under rule of law it would, but in a non-constitutional oligarchy, socialists hate Mormons so no polygamy.

That was the first I noticed with the reasoning for the majority. There was a total lack of limiting principle. The same exact logic is applicable to polygamy.

I could not care less if this ushers in polygamy. Normalizing homosexuality and is a far worse social ill IMO than polygamy.

The huge mistake was giving them the word MARRIAGE. Redefining something after many thousands of years? No. Leave marriage alone and enjoy the same legal privileges.

Why doesn't everyone get married to each other, then sign up for ONE insurance plan with everyone else named as an additional insured, which typically does not increase the premiums once you get past three or so dependents.

Maybe THAT would do in Obamacare.

It is a Pandora’s box for any kind of marriage. If a father wants to marry his 20 yr. old son, all the arguments made for gay marriage can be made for this marriage.

Next up for the Gaystopo is making pastors and churches allow these “marriages” in the church. The argument will be you have a right to your religion but you can’t force it on the gays that is discrimination so you will allow these marriages in your churches. It is coming as sure as God made little green apples.

But I believe that God’s wrath is about to be unleashed upon this country. Roe v. Wade, now this, God will not be mocked.
