Calls to remove the Confederate flag are nothing but a standard liberal impulse that will accomplish nothing, conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer said Tuesday.
Had the flag not existed or not been on the grounds of the (South Carolina) capital, this massacre would have happened in any case, Krauthammer said on Fox News Special Report Tuesday. But its the standard liberal impulse.
Something happened really bad. So theres gotta be a problem and there has to be a solution, we must do something, Krauthammer said, mimicking the liberal thought process. Even if the something is entirely irrelevant.

It is irrelevant.
At least the SFB’s didn’t try and push gun control as the usual answer.
This time.
Really? The other night he wanted them gone.
It is hardly ‘irrelevant.’ It is part of the drive to erase history and replace it with Corrected History. It will be followed by the anathematizing of other symbols of anything that might suggest that humans can do things in other ways. The Cross will have its turn, probably before the end of next summer.
That will come, but indirectly. I expect that manufacture and import will be made illegal or just commercially impossible, probably before the end of next summer. I think the Revolution will be at a climax or even complete next Summer.
This is what liberal bookburning looks like.
“If fascism ever comes to America, it will come in the name of liberalism.”
Before they knew what hit them, Governor Haley quickly turned this into a referendum on the Confederate battle flag, sucking all the air out of the gun controllers' sails.
This reminds me of an old Mark Twain Joke of a ship in a storm.
The sailors plea with the captain...”Pray for us Captain!”
The captain declares ..”I ain’t been in a church in thirty years! I don’t know how to pray!”
The Crew: “Captain, Then do SOMETHING RELIGIOUS!”
So he took up a collection.
Let's be honest. The impulse to do something irrelevant in response to an issue is just as present in the Republicans as it is in the Democrats. And just as strong.
You are right and Charles is wrong because he is working from an old paradigm of understanding American liberals. This is part of the Progressive Movement agenda to replace representative republicanism with an autocratic government that controls everything with diktats.
Republicans do not know when they are being laughed at..
SO... Obama selects and installs an Attorney General named LYNCH!...
And have no idea the White House is slapping their knees..
And the FBI is tied down by Lilliputian communists.. and tortured...
and purged and flushed with an enema..
it’s (no doubt) become the Federal Bureau of Intimidation..
I checked amazon books and they better get going on book burning because there are a whole lot of them with confederate flag on the cover.
I don’t know if anyone else is tied out to a lot of Progs on FB or other social media sites, but in the last few hours I’ve seen an explosive reaction by many I am (and they tend to be DC and NYC activist and political establishment types) that their leadership has been totally played by the whole Confederate flag thing as a destraction from gun control.
If we’re lucky they’ll goad their leadership into an overreach. We saw the backlash against the Newtown measures. Which wouldn’t have stopped the Charleston shooting. If they want to prevent future Charlestons using gun control they need to go much further. And the mainstream political support just isn’t there for it.
The Cross will have its turn, probably before the end of next summer.
Not likely...the Confederate flag is of marginal relevance to the majority of the country...can’t say that about the Cross...
That’s one way to spin it.
The Republican’s traded the Confederate flag for gun control. Everybody is talking about the flag and not banning guns. I think it stinks but I guess that is their philosophy. Sadly the philosophy of the left is to eradicate Southern politics and Southern history.
My question to the REpublicans is what are you going to trade away next time there is a shooting?
Could have fooled me in the midst of all this media feces-flinging about that "marginally-relevant" flag.
Yes, and many republicans eager to pander to those who are never going to vote for them piled on.
The Flag today, guns tomorrow then your children and your old.
