Former Virginia senator and potential Democratic presidential candidate Jim Webb weighed in on the Confederate flag debate on Wednesday, urging careful consideration of both sides of the historical argument.
“This is an emotional time and we all need to think through these issues with a care that recognizes the need for change but also respects the complicated history of the Civil War. The Confederate Battle Flag has wrongly been used for racist and other purposes in recent decades. It should not be used in any way as a political symbol that divides us,” Webb wrote in a Facebook post.
Americans should remember that people on both sides fought honorably, Webb said, “including slave holders in the Union Army from states such as Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland and Delaware, and that many non-slave holders fought for the South.”
“It was in recognition of the character of soldiers on both sides that the federal government authorized the construction of the Confederate Memorial 100 years ago, on the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery,” he wrote. . .

They fought to preserve the liberty inherent in the distribution of power aka states rights. They opposed the leviathan state that federalism brings. They fought against the willful disregard for the constitution and economic oppression imposed by the industrial north. There were many honorable and noble reasons to defend the self-governing doctrines against the empire builders.

I haven’t checked myself, it was an image of the Amazon online chat from another. I did check to see if they are selling the Nation of Islam flag and they are.
And then a portion of that country wants to split off to live free as they did before the tyrant came to power, THEY are the ones fighting to save the country as it was (only smaller) While the tyrant is fighting to enforce his NEW tyranny.
Some people seem to be completely unaware of the New England secessionist movement(s) in the very early 1800s.
Besides the Nation of Islam flag, the Palestinian flag is also on line. I put in the Confederate flag, and the USA flag come up.
There were secessionist movements all throughout the nation’s early history.
Same could be said of our involvement in Iraq ... to what end? So Shia or Sunni come out as top dog?

The men themselves fight honorably and I believe with good intentions. The same cannot be always be said of the people who send them into battle.

A lot of honorable Americans fought on both sides. Why anyone would let this low down, rotten excuse of a human Roof drag down that honor is beyond me.
I'm Idaho born and raised so I understand that I really don't have a dog in the whole Civil War/War of Northern Aggression fight. That said with the nonsense the media is pulling somebody better hand me a shovel because it is getting deep. How long till some ‘tea-party’ person goes nuts and the Gadsden flag etc. are censored for the good of the country?

Grant and a whole host of Union generals said that if the War was to free the slaves they would not have supported it. They were adamant that they fought to preserve the Union, as they saw it (a noble cause if the Union — and the federal government that ran it — was going to abide by the Constitution, which it didn’t).
