The Senate majority leader told reporters Tuesday that the memorial belongs in a museum, not the statehouse.
I’m seeing more BS linking the Stars & Bars and the Swastika*.
CSA = Nazis? Really? When did that happen? I guess I missed that.
So because a historic symbol gets bastardized, it automatically becomes evil? Today it’s the Stars & Bars...what’s next?
*Which was an American Indian symbol that was used as an insignia by a U.S. Army unit prior to WWII.
Umm...... The Rainbow Pride Flag?
LOL!
This shooting had NOTHING to do with the confederacy ! This guy was pissed off about the WHITE GENOCIDES going on as we speak in South Africa and Rowanda.
But we cant have everyone focusing on THAT now can we? So... I KNOW we will make this guy into a southern confederate hold-out trying to bring back slavery!
I can't believe our leaders on the right are falling for this crap!!!!
Was that used before the twinks stole it?
LOL
Right. The libs just shove it down our throats while the RINO’s “pretend” otherwise.
Yes, that’s what I figured, but that flag is rayciss, too.
It’s strange in Kentucky, because Kentucky did not secede, although it was a slave state. But whatever. It’s Kentucky’s business, not Mitch McConnel’s.
You think you can placate them by sacrificing my childrens birthright
Dont be foolish"
That's exactly right.
As I posted on another thread, after all traces of the Confederacy have been wiped out, what do you think they will do? Stop? No, they'll look around for their next crusade, and what might it be?
Maybe next up will be a certain white slave owner from Virginia, commonly called the father of the country. They'll demand his house in Mount Vernon be shut down...maybe turned into a home for unwed black mothers to exorcise the slavery taint.
Then there's Jefferson....his Monticello & Poplar Forest, the memorial, and on and on.
My gosh, these were Americans, not ISIS. The nation was divided but they were still Americans, not terrorists. Tyranny has arrived and they have only just begun. All the news is all about race now which imo is extremely racist. There should be news about lots of subjects.
I’m tired of this
Some Retard: “Hillary will win because of this”
Der, I think think the election will turn on IMPORTANT issues not meaningless crap. Anyone that likes the rebel flag can fly it in front of their damn house or put a decal on their pickup truck. It doesn’t belong flying in front of State Capitols and it never did.
Half the posts recently are either
1)Calling Republicans RINOS for wanting to take down the flag of the slave master’s rebellion that the first Republican President crushed, that should have never have been put up by sore loser democrats in the first place.
2)Calling Republicans RINOs for supporting lower taxes on imports.
LOL and LOL
What’s cute is that last week, the “Republic, not a democracy” crowd was doing their usual talking points about how state governments are just so awesome and wonderful that THEY should have the power to single-handily decide ANYTHING they want. Letting the majority of citizens in a state decide the official policy of the state would be “mob rule” and we don’t want eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil democracy tainting that. Democracy is the WORST form of the government EVER. The state legislature knows what’s best for the state. They represent the interests of the state as a whole. The people have no buisness making those decisions, or the result will be “Two wolves and one sleep deciding what to have for breakfast”, blah blah blah.
This week, the southern state governments and legislatures are doing exactly that (deciding to purge the confederate flag from public display on state grounds, regardless of how their citizens feel about it), and the “States rights” crowd is doing a 180o degree flip-flip and going “but...but...the MAJORITY of our citizens WANTED the confederate flag on display!! They VOTED for that in a referendum!! HOW DARE THE STATE LEGISLATURE IGNORE THE WISHES OF THE PEOPLE!!”)
Ah, delicious irony.
You Blue state Yankee!
For better or worse, that flag is historical. It’s not the same as a Swastika though.
Does it represent treason? Yes. But racial hatred or genocide? No.
Does it belong in State Capitols? That’s up to those individual states. If they want it, keep it, vote on keeping it, whatever. It’s a state issue.
The Jefferson Davis statue: Again, vote on it. It’s a state issue.
Many in the GOP want issues like gay marriage, immigration and that flag resolved (given up) BEFORE the debates so that the GOP POTUS candidates are not asked about them and they can focus on questions on issues that the polls they see give them the advantage, like ISIS and jobs.
Of all three I listed, they figure if the SCOTUS decides to make gay marriage the national law of the land then that is a freebee for them.
The other two they figure that they risk backfire on from conservatives because they are involved, but decided its worth it as this post shows,.
I have no problem deciding it by popular vote referendum, but again: the freepers affected by this are the ones who have been loudly SCREAMING for years about how state legislatures, NOT the citizens of a state, know what's best for us. They've said over and over again that the job of the state government is to determine the best interests of the state as a whole, NOT follow the wishes of the majority. "Republic, NOT a Democracy!!!" "Abolish the 17th amendment!!!" "Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for breakfast!!" "Democracy is MOB RULE!!"
We've been hearing it ad infinitum since their god Mark Levin informed them about a decade ago that it was now the most important issue on the planet, and they love to trash anyone who disagrees with them as a statist who "hates the constitution and the founding fathers".
Well, now they got their wish, their state governments are going to do what THEY think is best for their state, not giving a whiff about public opinion in the deep south and regardless of whether their citizens agree with it or not.
Be careful what you wish for, you may get it.
An American version of Chairman Mao’s “Cultural Revolution” has arrived with the Republican Party in the vanguard.
For some, it is a symbol of vitriol and racism (which seems almost like a redundancy).
For others, it is merely a symbol of a heritage that should be embraced.
Sadly, too many people refuse to see the other side's point of view.
Precisely because it is seen by some, however, as a symbol of racism--and because I utterly detest racism!--it is probably best to remove the Confederate flag from official positions (such as the statehouse). And this view of the Confederate flag is not at all unsupportable: The Klan, for instance, has adopted it as its symbol.
Still, I would much prefer that the states make individual decisions here. Anything else smacks of political correctness--which I utterly despise!
And I am just a bit fearful that this may spread to other states--and that it may not be limited to the Confederate battle flag. For instance, some people, in different states, are now pushing for the removal of statues of Robert E. Lee, Nathan Bedford Forrest, et al.
As I noted previously, this looks too much like political correctness to make me entirely comfortable...
So Political Correctness de joure is the new standard of what historical monuments will be allowed? I think we owe an appology to the Taliban and ISIS for condemning their destruction of archaeological relics that they found offensive.
