Is this bolder than what Haley did or not as bold? Davis may not hold the same cultural currency as a symbol of southern pride that the flag does, but Haley had less to lose in making her move than Bevin does. She’s the term-limited governor of South Carolina; he’s the GOP nominee for governor in Kentucky. If there’s a broader southern backlash coming to all of the criticism of Confederate iconography this past week, he’ll pay for it more than she will.

One of my ancestors fought under Washington at Trenton. Another was a PFC in the Confederate Army. Neither men owned slaves. In fact, one was adamantly opposed to slavery. The one who fought for the Confederacy never owned a slave and I don’t know of any of my ancestors who did.
To me the flag has always represented a people standing up to a tyrannical government. The first ancestor fought against the tyranny of England. The second fought against the tyranny of the U.S. federal government.
The only way for evil to win is when good rational people stand silent and let it happen.—First the flag, then the statues, then the graves and museums—The south will become south Chicago, Baltimore and Open season on all “whities”—better move to Texas—the last state with balls.
I agree with you. I would state it differently: Things have gone so far that ordinary political means no longer function. By ordinary political means I mean fair elections. A second element which must happen, is suppression of the mainstream media; which is and has been since the 1930’s a method for the control of public opinion. Detailed analysis of the actual identity of the ownership, management and control of each and every media outlet would be a start.
The new public that we are going to get is the one that is currently being maleducated by this current public.

They should just go ahead and vote the southern states out of the union. We’ll go peacefully and take our statues and flags with us.
The Southern states should have refused to come back. Remain occupied until another country invades the U.S. then the occupiers would have to be brought back home to defend their shores. The union army wasn’t strong enough to do both.
