Matt Bevin calls for removal of Jefferson Davis statue from Kentucky capitol
http://hotair.com ^ | June 23, 2015

Is this bolder than what Haley did or not as bold? Davis may not hold the same cultural currency as a symbol of southern pride that the flag does, but Haley had less to lose in making her move than Bevin does. She’s the term-limited governor of South Carolina; he’s the GOP nominee for governor in Kentucky. If there’s a broader southern backlash coming to all of the criticism of Confederate iconography this past week, he’ll pay for it more than she will.

The democrats in the South in the 19th century were a hell of a lot more conservative than the Wing/Republican Party. They were the states rights party. The Republican Party of Lincoln was Wall Street and big business, i.e., big government.

“I just don’t care... one way or the other”.

The product of Yankee school indoctrination. That is exactly what you had growing up. I did also. But when I became a grown man and started reading REAL HISTORY, it didn’t take me long to figure I had been had and lied to in schools I attended.

You obviously didn’t have relatives killed in the War of Revenue. I did. A hell of a lot. And I will defend their honor and their right for self-rule as long as I live.

Charge to the Sons of Confederate Veterans

“To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier’s good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish.”

Lt. General Stephen Dill Lee, Commander General,
United Confederate Veterans,
New Orleans, Louisiana, April 25, 1906.

You’re correct; my people came to the USA as immigrants after the Civil War was over. My people never owned slaves - they came to this Nation to follow the “American Dream” because they were as poor as slaves in England, France, and Germany before they came here.

You are mistaken in your thinking that I’m uneducated about the truth: I am completely aware that the War Between the States WAS the War of Northern Aggression. Slavery was just an excuse.

Slavery, as an institution was already becoming economically unsustainable due to advances in mechanization. The true seeds of the war resided in taxation and political power. The NE States wanted to keep the fruits of political power for themselves and went to legths reminicient of King George III to do so. And, in large part, they continue to do so to this day.

No FRiend, I know all about the true causes of the Civil War.

What I AM saying is: The South LOST a military defeat. We just couldn’t triumph over the numbers and mechanization of the North. Period. The South lost two full generations of its men while the north lost a fraction. Hopefully, when the Second American Revolution inevitably occurs, we here in the south will remember the lessons from that defeat.

In the meantime, the reason “I don’t care” about the mementos of the Confederacy is that they ultimately mean nothing. They are not worth one ounce of strife over. The people (on both sides of the issue) would be better off to engage themselves more profitably. The race pimps will gain nothing in their battle to end “racism” by getting rid of the Battle Flag in public places, and the Southern Historians gain nothing in the fight to defend the status quo.

FRiend, we have bigger fish to fry. Keeping your eyes on the Battle Flag or the bust of Jeff Davis is keeping your eyes OFF the bigger and more important things the powers-that-be are trying to distract you from; like the growing tyrany of the professional political class and the dangers of enemies foreign and domestic.

Smart politicians let things quiet down, but no, she had to get out in front of the mob. Give ‘em an inch, they’ll take a mile.

There real objection is not so much with the flag but the millions of white Southerners who live in the South.

Black Lives Matter and other related groups were arching in the street of New York southing: “WHAT DO WE WANT-DEAD COPS! WHEN DO WE WANT IT NOW!”

The White Southerners were not the ones who were calling for the death of police. It was the northern leftist agitators.

“My people never owned slaves”

Neither did the vast majority of the Southerners that fought and died in Lincoln’s war.

Very true. Which is yet more evidence that the war was NOT about slavery.

Most Southerners were little better off than slaves in those days. Many were in far more precarious circumstances.

I find it impossible to believe so many men would die for a cause (slavery) that had no benefit to themselves, and was in fact, in many cases, detrimental to them.

Again, this thread is not about slavery or even the war, but of the cultural mementos of that conflict.

And one by one they are gone. At the rate these chickenshit republican governors are cowering down to democrats there will be no trace of Southern Heritage within the next six months. The war that killed a million Americans never happened. Edit the history books. It was all a lie. It never happened. What a bunch of candy ass politicians. Conservatives that voted for them before will stay home in 2016 and Hillary Clinton will be the next president. These morons are slitting their own throats.
