As a general matter, I agree (as did Ronald Reagan) that free trade is good for America; when we open up foreign markets, it helps American farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers. But TPA in this Congress has become enmeshed in corrupt Washington backroom deal-making, along with serious concerns that it would open up the potential for sweeping changes in our laws that trade agreements typically do not include. Since the Senate first voted on TPA, there have been two material changes. First, WikiLeaks subsequently revealed new troubling information regarding the Trade in Services Agreement, or TiSA, one of the trade deals being negotiated by Obama. Despite the administrations public assurances that it was not negotiating on immigration, several chapters of the TiSA draft posted online explicitly contained potential changes in federal immigration law. TPA would cover TiSA, and therefore these changes would presumably be subject to be fast-track. When TPA last came up for a vote, both Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL)80% and I introduced amendments that would have barred fast-track treatment for any trade agreement that attempted to impact immigration law. Two other Republican senators objected, and we were both denied votes on our amendments. Instead, the House inserted substantially weaker language in related legislation.

Oh, you’re way west, bummer. I’m way east. I’m as far east as you can get without leaving the state. In the tri-cities in the NE corner.
It would be fun to have a Tennessee freeper convention though.
Unfortunately, many still don’t know what TPA is and still are confusing it with the trade agreements themselves.
It’s jerks like you who have to be just as misinformative as those on the left.
Prideful much?
Wouldn’t it though! I’d attend. The Smokies would be a beautiful place for a convention.
Are you near Bristol? We always go that way when we travel to Virginia to see our kids.
LIAR
You must be proud of you helping to push this obamatrade that obama will use to import hundreds of millions of 3rd world people.
No you are a liar.all the links I posted are true as is what cruz said. cruz admitted on mark levin that obamatrade will change immigration laws now:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRBXj38Q9-I
Contradict yourself much - or do you just not pay attention to what you post?
even Cruz now admits that this obamatrade will change immigration laws . he states this as 1 of his reasons for doing his flip flop vote changing his vote to no on obamatrade now. he SAID that he and Sessions tried to add ammendments that would stop obama from changing immigration laws but those FAILED to pass. but he defended obamatrade up until yesterday. he said wikileaks leaked the immigration changing parts of it.
DUH!! The FIRST TPA bill DID have Cruz’s amendment to take out the immigration crap, hence why he voted YAY.
The SECOND TPA bill took OUT his amendment....hence why he voted NO.
He didn’t realize this until right before the vote.
Damn I can’t believe how daft some people are.
YOU are a liar and apparently lack comprehension skills.
TPA is NOT Obamatrade. And I am not pushing ANY bills. Get a clue.
He only voted this LAST time against it finally but it's too late now as TPA will pass which will make passing TPP a formality as TPA eliminates all the tools the Senate had to stop TPP
all you do is call me names when all I did was post the truth about this Obamatrade. and you all take it as an attack on Cruz . all you are worried about how this makes cruz look and not what this obamtrade will do to America. i post the truth and you all act as if a post of mine would destroy Cruz. i don't care about any cruz. this is the death of America. you all act like part of a cult .ridiculous behavior.
I don't care about getting into any discussion about cruz. you all got me into that now . i’m just worried about this obamatrade and how it will destroy America
Obama will use it to import hundreds of millions of 3rd world immigrants. no amendment even if passed would stop that. but it didn't pass. we voted them in to stop Obama not empower him
Closer to Johnson City, outside of Elizabethton.
The Smokes would be a great place! It’s on my long list of places to see.
“we voted them in to stop Obama not empower him”
Excellent summary of my disappointment and wrath.
There’s just no hope.
Even a conservative president will be fighting the RINO congress.
He can't.
"Yes, it's SECRET. We, the EXEMPT had to vote for it
to find out what was in it.
And TEA Party and Constitution be damned, for it empowers my King
also, by the way, from Harvard Law School."
Article III, Section 3, Paragraph 1, of the Constitution of the United States:
"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them,
or, in adhering to their Enemies, giving them aid and comfort."
The "aid and comfort" prong of treason has been interpreted
by SCOTUS as requiring proof of four elements:
1. an intent to betray the United States (which can be inferred from);
2. an overt act;
3. witnessed by two people; and
4. that provides aid and comfort to an enemy of the United States.
First off, let’s get some things straight.
cloture - The only procedure by which the Senate can vote to place a time limit on consideration of a bill or other matter, and thereby overcome a filibuster. Under the cloture rule (Rule XXII), the Senate may limit consideration of a pending matter to 30 additional hours, but only by vote of three-fifths of the full Senate, normally 60 votes.
So a “cloture” vote is not voting FOR the bill itself, but for voting to continue or set a time limit for consideration of a bill.
And where do you get your information that Ted Cruz voted NUMEROUS TIMES to advance the TPA? Because, last I checked, there have only been 2 votes on THIS TPA bill, today being one of them.
You must be confusing TPP with TPA, as many people are. TPP is the trade deal, that I agree, is a scary idea. But since NO ONE has read it outside of DC, and NONE OF US know exactly what is in it, for us to “speculate” and drag on like it’s this HORRID thing, without ALL the facts, is, well, a bit of a knee jerk reaction. Granted, it is Obama at the helm, so I can only imagine, it’s a disaster. But again, without ALL THE FACTS, it shouldn’t even be part of our vernacular until we KNOW. Let’s use some common sense here...if you can find it.
TPA on the other hand, is the procedures FOR the TPP (Trade Deal). Either you lack the understanding about what the TPA does or you have fallen for the MSM/left-wing misinformation, about what the TPA does. Because as it was passed, WITH Cruz’s amendment, it WOULD have the tools in it TO STOP Obama and get more transparency and oversight on the trade bill.
You are DEAD WRONG when you say Ted Cruz’s amendment was not in the first passing, as it was. TPA didn’t pass the first time, because of TAA, which was tied to it.
But this SECOND vote for TPA today, does NOT have Ted’s amendment in it, and like I said before, is one of the reasons he is voting NAY.
And for the record, I never called you a name. I said you were a liar, because you are. And I said you are daft, because you are. Those aren’t names, they are descriptions of your character. You are not posting the TRUTH about Obamatrade, because YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS IN OBAMATRADE. And as well, as I’ve mentioned above, have clearly confused it with TPA (the procedural methods), so this “truth” you speak of, is invalidated.
Not once did I ever say or concern myself what or how Cruz looks like on this. Not once. Your little spiel doesn’t make any sense.
At least we can agree the Obamatrade deal is probably a bad thing. But again, coming on and posting the drivel you have, and then claiming it’s “truth”, is unacceptable and spreading misinformation and you’re damn right you’re going to get jumped on.
Yup, Cruz is once again on my acceptable list. But he sure looks like a typical DC politician, and that is not good.
Thanks. Post #715 was very helpful.
I am using it in a broad sense as a betrayal of American values.
They are voting for TAA. right now. I’ve been out for most of the day. Cruz and Cotton voted against. I think this may just be cloture.
Who the heck knows what the final bill looks like on TPA. I despise Boehner and McConnell.
