Why Nikki Haley is smart to want to remove South Carolina’s Confederate flag

During a press conference on Monday, Gov. Nikki Haley will ask that the Confederate flag on the grounds of South Carolina's capitol be removed, according to the Post and Courier. The move from the popular governor (reelected last year by 15 points and with 79 percent approval last April) will almost certainly help encourage the state legislature to vote for removal. As it stands, the legislature needs a two-thirds vote to make that happen -- a high bar.

I think she wants to be on someone’s VP list and doing this will guarantee that the establishment will approve of her.

Did she mention in her speech that it was demoRAT governors who put it up in the first place?

did she mention that bill clintoon allowed it to fly in ARkansas when he was governor?

or that bill and killary procided over confederate flag festivals?

She wants credit and praise and if she mentioned any of that the press would accuse her of being political.

She won’t be recalled because no one cares the South is gone it’s been swallowed up by the American Empire.

If it were just my opinion, it would not matter. But I believe the majority of Republicans and the majority of conservatives see things my way. This is why the Confederate flag will come down from the SC statehouse. There is no meaningful support in this country for secessionism. It’s preposterous that I have to add this, but there is no meaningful support for slavery either.

Georgia state flag:

Instead of incorporating the battle flag, the Georgia flag design is much closer to the flag of the Confederacy. Should this flag also be redesigned so it is not so insensitive to the sensibilities of the perpetually easily offended?

If South Carolina would fly the Confederate Flag and not the Battlefield flag, no one would say anything..... example

That's BS

Professors: US flag symbolizes racism, should not be displayed on campus

You ignoramuses will have no defense against this either. Nor will you have any defense when they come after the founding fathers nor will you have any defense against most of American history pre 1965. It's all racist.

I merely stated ... just because you can ... doesn’t mean you should.

To me ... the issue was resolved years ago when the Southern States lost their battle to secede from the Union. Again, IMO saying the Confederate flag is an important part of your heritage implies wishing the south had successfully seceded from the Union and not wanting to be a US citizen. Further ... harking to bygone days ... does that also include slavery? Women as chattel to men?

I am not saying I’m for purging anything ... but this whole southern way of life argument ... as it relates to the Confederate era ... seems archaic.

Short answer ... should they ...IMO yes.

Will they? Nope
Do they have to? Nope

Roof wasn’t attracted by the flag, but by a group of racist loonies who appealed to his insanity and who unfortunately were often shown with Confederate flags.

ISIS wasn't attracted by the snazzy black flag, they joined up for white Toyota trucks with Russian anti aircraft guns in the back. Don't tell the media types about this. Toyota would have to apologize. For something.

The left is all about symbols. Without them, they could not figure out how people think. If they don't know how you think, they can't charge you with a hate crime.

A person flying the flag belongs in the racist box. A pro gun bumper sticker, put them in the criminal racist box. A rainbow flag, give them the medal of honor and put them in the hero box.

I want them going nuts trying to figure out how to put me in all the boxes. I have flags and bumper stickers for all the bad boy boxes. Perhaps the ISIS types can dismantle me so a piece can go in each box.

I hope this sounds as dumb as the media flatulence about racist flags running around killing people.

The “Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union” makes it clear that the reason South Carolina seceded was slavery...

Again they are caving. Someone heeds to stand up to them. They are bullies, nothing more, nothing less. I know what it is like to be bullied and I did my fair share of caving, I was and still am an electronics and ham radio geek, most likely with Asperger's so I stuck out like a sore thumb when I was in grade school. Mom, when I complained, told me to "get out there and fight back, defend yourself, or I'll beat you up." So I did to this one kid that kept beating me up in 2nd grade. When I socked him back, we both got sent to the prinicpal's office and paddled (this was 1974) and after that, we became great friends. My mother never found out until 1994 when I told her but I know she would have been proud of me and wouldn't cared if I got paddled defending myself but as 8 year old kid logic goes, I kept shut for 20 years. This taught me one other thing, sometimes life ain't fair and no good deed goes unpunished.

Even so, I don't like confrontation, sometimes if it happens once, I might let it go, a second time, a stern response where I'm not amused and after that, then I respond in kind. Someone needs to stand up to these bullies and tell the "no" and STFU. If I was governor, I'd just tell them to STFU and to kiss my butt. That needs to be done and when someone, somewhere does it for the first time, it could be seen as a national holiday to be celebrated.

Professors: US flag symbolizes racism, should not be displayed on campus

So, some fringe professors sign an online petition, which (unsuccessfully) called for the American flag (among other flags) to be banned in a single specific location on the campus of a single liberal university (not even the whole campus, just the lobby of one building), and you think THAT poses a threat to the American flag? Ha!
