US Catholics ready to follow Pope's 'marching orders' on climate change

Leaders of the Catholic Church in America took their “marching orders” from the Pope’s encyclical on Thursday, fanning out to Congress and the White House to push for action on climate change.

The high-level meetings offered a first glimpse of a vast and highly organised effort by the leadership of America’s nearly 80 million Catholics to turn the Pope’s moral call for action into reality.

“It is our marching orders for advocacy,” Joseph Kurtz, the president of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Archbishop of Louisville, said. “It really brings about a new urgency for us.”

You’re a fake Jew and people need to know it. I’m of Irish and Ashkanazi descent and proud of it.

How can I be a "fake Jew" if I've never claimed to be Jewish? I have from my first day here identified myself as a Noachide. Perhaps you don't recognize the legitimacy of that religion? If so then you can't have much respect for Judaism either, since Judaism teaches that non-Jews are bound by the Laws of Noah.

Just like Protestant churches and their followers regarding homosexual “marriage,” not all Catholics will follow the Pope’s ideas with this particular issue.

Protestants often get bashed over the head on this site for having "30,000 denominations".

Catholics on the other hand tell us they have one Church. However, it seems they are willing to ignore their leaders when it suits them.

How do you know what is divinely inspired and what isn't if you ignore your leadership?

The money that Catholics give to their local church does not go to Rome.

I hope you are not as ignorant as you pretend.

The Pope’s infallibility has nothing to do with his opinions.

They may not be that slow to get it as reluctant (or unwilling) to admit it, as it would then justify OUR position. IOW, they'd have to admit that the Reformation was correct.

Good point...

I disagree. It’s not about the sex abuse scandal. It’s about abortion.

The Catholic hierarchy have been laboring for forty years to keep Catholics voting for pro-abortion politicians. The bishops’ letter on nuclear war, “The Challenge of Peace,” in tandem with Cardinal Bernardin’s “Seamless Garment” speeches, were all about convincing Catholics that pro-life politicians (conservatives) wanted to BLOW UP THE WORLD. Therefore, it was okay to vote for pro-aborts.

This encyclical is just a tool in a slightly updated version of the “seamless garment.” Pro-life politicians want to DESTROY THE EARTH WITH CARBON!

I don’t take anything the Pope says about abortion seriously. He has personally, systematically appointed bishops who support gay marriage, and abortion. They support abortion by insisting that pro-abortion politicians must be given Communion. That act TEACHES. It teaches that abortion is not a sin. The new Archbishops of San Diego and Chicago, McElroy and Cupich, are Communion-for-Pelosi bishops. All American bishops except about TEN are Communion-for-Pelosi bishops.

Has anyone even suggested searching the Scriptures to see if these teachings are true?

Not a priest. Bishop Usher—an Anglican.

By Pope standards, Bergoglio is an uneducated man. He has no philosophy and theology other than the crash courses that all priests get. He is nearly monolingual. I.e., he speaks Spanish and halting Italian. No English, at least when he was elected.

It's unclear to me from what you wrote, who is the hoaxer in this piece??? St. Malachy? Or Nostradamus?

As far as I know, Nostradamus isn't part of this prophecy at all.

The hoax is in attributing it to St. Malachy, it is thought to be a forgery because the popes who lived prior to the discovery of the prophecy fit really well into the prophecy, the subsequent ones do not (it's kind of like a horoscope or fortune cookie, if you work really hard at it you can make it fit but it's sometimes a huge stretch).

To the best of my knowledge, St. Malachy NEVER claimed to be a prophet and his "prophecy" was "discovered" four centuries after his death. Keep in mind, that under Old Testament Law a prophet needed to be 100% right, 100% of the time or he was to be put to death (Deuteronomy 18).

As far as Nostradamus, the prophecy you are speaking of isn't his. The prophecies of Nostradamus are, in my opinion, all over the place and open to wide interpretation. I don't put much stock in him because ANYBODY can predict that disasters will happen and they eventually will, many of his prophecies have simply been interpreted in such a way that they fit certain events.

It's so much easier -- and takes so much less time -- to fight "climate change" than it does to fight real evil. And to attack those who deny "climate change" as "evil-doers" -- that is, to equate "climate change" with "evil" -- builds a false sense of self-esteem in otherwise good people.

The Catholic Church will, of course, survive its foolish leader -- this PINO -- who is working diligently to reduce the Church to just another faddish cult. I don't pretend to know for one second how God thinks, but I think it's possible that He is not pleased with this pope using His name to promote the greatest evil the world has ever known -- socialism.

It’s curious that every few months, another child sex abuse story crops up in the news, leading to a few resignations and a payout from the church. Nothing really changes...

Good point about the Pope. He seems less educated than the scholars of the past. He might fit in on some FR religious forums!

I was once a Jesuit novice, after attending a Jesuit college. My brother attended a Jesuit high school.

The Jesuits WERE an elite group in some respects. They were the largest teaching order and the largest missionary order, at the same time. But they were never ALL scholars and geniuses, or political operatives, and all that conspiratorial stuff.

Today, some of the most astonishing (in a good sense) scholars in the Church are Jesuits. But the Society is DYING. Every Jesuit in Spain is over 70. Or 75. There were about 55,000 Jesuits in 1960. There will be only several thousand Jesuits in 20-40 years, and probably none in 100 years.
