Ever get the feeling the candidate who is making other candidates worry the most is Marco Rubio? Your feeling is on the money.
On Sunday, Hillary Rodham Clinton relaunched her campaign, trying to tag Republicans by saying they are singing the old Beatles song Yesterday a deliberate effort to turn Rubios own stinging charge in April that she was a leader from yesterday who began a campaign for president by promising to take us back to yesterday back on him.
Not to be outdone, on Monday, Jeb Bush officially began his run for the presidency with a passive-aggressive assault on Rubio that implicitly linked him with Hillary: the Washington mess, he said, cannot be cleaned up by electing the people who either helped create it or have proven incapable of fixing it.
Before Bush spoke at his own campaign event, Jeb supporter named Don Graetz who worked with Rubio in the Florida state Senate was all aggressive and no passive he referred to Jeb as the Florida Republican who can win. Guess who the Florida Republican who cant win is supposed to be.
Bushs event was deliberately Cuban in flavor and feeling, designed to try to neutralize what would appear to be Rubios natural advantage with the large number of Cubans who will vote Republican in that states crucial February primary.
Rubio might be the scion of an immigrant Cuban family, but Jeb speaks fluent Spanish and is a devoted convert to Catholicism, the faith professed by most Cuban-Americans.
The other unquestioned top-tier Republican candidate, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, has his own clever take on Rubio that seeks to take him down a peg while praising him.
Walker privately speaks admiringly of the Florida senator and says hed be sure hed want Rubio . . . as his own VP

Now, I am not a supporter of Walker or Rubio, but, for better or worse, a Walker/Rubio ticket would be VERY tough to beat.
The electoral numbers would bear that out.
Why not Walker/Cruz or vice versa?
I fail to see why Mr. Rubio ‘scares’ all other candidates. That’s not to say he’s not a formidable opponent.
Mr. Rubio’s got a lot of qualities necessary for leadership - young, energetic, good looks, and speaks well. I think he also enjoys a pretty good level of support as well.
I’d do Cruz/Walker in a heartbeat with Walker as VP. I don’t think Cruz should be 2nd on the Ticket. If that is the case, we need him back in the Senate.
I was only talking about electoral prospects. Walker/Cruz or visaversa is a solid ticket that would win. But, if you look at the map, Walker/Rubio would carry the key states...WI, FL, MI, OH, maybe VA and NV and CO.
Just strategy, but not the ticket I support.
Speaking as a hispanic, Rubio is a TOTAL lightweight. He will not get the nomination.
Cruz/Rubio
I hope you’re right!
He does seem light weight. He is handsome but I will see how he handles himself campaigning. He is being promoted by those who seem to also promote Walker and Jeb.
“Speaking as a hispanic, Rubio is a TOTAL lightweight. He will not get the nomination.”
Being “lightweight” did not hold back Obama, twice, I might point out.
Rubio soiled himself permanently in my eyes by scheming with Schumer against the citizens.
Why would anyone want to give more knives to a backstabber?
The greatest qualification for the nominee will be the one who can court the most Latino votes. What happened to America?
Rubio scares all other candidates because he is what I would consider the cutoff point between tiers. Also, unless something goes awry, more than likely he will be the VP pick since it is pretty much a safe assumption that Castro will be the VP pick for the rats. This means Rubio has a spot on the ticket one way or the other.
He is also scaring candidates because he can siphon off both votes and money from either Conservatives or Moderates. While I think this impacts Walker more than Cruz, the damage it does to Bush can ruin his candidacy.
A Walker-Rubio ticket sounds good and I agree that it could be a ticket that would be hard to beat. I like their more conservative attitudes toward governing and the respect for the US Constitution. They may not be perfect, but they are good enough for me. None of the Democrats are worthy of consideration, esp. Hillary and Bernie.
I also like the notion of a more youthful ticket, yet experienced in government. Many of the young voters are influenced by surface values and emotions - unfortunately. There is no doubt that both men are good looking. (HaHa!)
They are both men of strong Christian beliefs too, and have nice families - which is just window dressing, but it helps. That is my 2 cents worth.
Maybe in the way that John Edwards, Dan Quayle or Teddy Kennedy were before people got to know them.
As mentioned, I prefer Cruz on top of the ticket. But unlike many on FR, I believe his voting record makes Rubio a Conservative...he is one of the highest rated each time the ratings come out.
But, I am just thinking about the map. If Cruz isn’t on the ticket, here is what I see:
The Dems will have a Hispanic on their ticket. Rubio would neutralize it. He/Walker would DESTROY Hillary on the podium...not even debating, but by appearances. Florida would be off the map. I think we’d flip WI and maybe MI. We’d win OH and probably flip IA. All of those know him well.
Rubio would carry Florida. We’d get support, I believe, in CO and NV. I think we might even flip Va.
Just my opinion.
Marco Rubio is 6 months younger than Ted Cruz.
Had to laugh when J-Pod referred to Rubio as a great debater and orator.
Better than the Princeton debate and speaking champion, Ted Cruz?
If you like unlawful immigration, vote for Rubio.
No to Rubio.
Ted Cruz opposed Gang of Eight.
What?
Leadership is defined as “young, energetic, ‘good looks’?”
Sorry, Abe Lincoln.
The Gang of Eight makes Rubio a conservative?
What am I missing here?
Rubio favors continuing DACA as president, an unconstitutional executive action by Obama shortly after Congress voted down the Dream Act.
Rubio’s presidential campaign backers are same ones who backed his Gang of Eight efforts.
