Palin praises Jeb Bush

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin praised Jeb Bush on Monday, highlighting his remarks on raising children with special needs.

The comments from Palin, who remains a favorite with some grassroots conservatives, come a day after Bush’s official entry to the presidential race.

“It was encouraging today to hear Governor Jeb Bush speak directly to an issue that touches so many lives in these challenging times, both culturally and fiscally – raising a child with special needs,” Palin wrote on her Facebook page.

“I'm glad Jeb's life was touched by God's purpose-filled children, and hope he continues with a positive message of inclusion, empowerment and specifics as how we can best advocate for families who would never expect government to do it all, but would like to count on government being on their side,” she added.

Bush, whose campaign thanked Palin in a tweet, remarked during his announcement about his efforts as Florida governor on behalf of children with developmental challenges.

“We didn’t leave them last in line. We put them first in line, because they are not a problem, they are a priority,” he said in his speech in Miami.

Palin has traditionally thrown her weight behind grassroots Republican candidates, and Bush is seen as an establishment candidate.

Ahead of his speech, Bush's campaign released a video Sunday featuring a woman named Berthy De La Rose-Aponte, whose daughter is autistic.

“He really cares about us. He really cares about people with developmental disabilities, and with all disabilities,” Rose-Aponte said in the video. “There are people today that are getting services because of what Jeb did.”

Palin, whose post included a photo of Bush seen in the video, encouraged followers to “keep our hearts open” about a potential 2016 Republican presidential nominee.

So, you’re saying she didn’t find jebbie’s support for special needs kids compelling?????

compelling

[kuh m-pel-ing]

adjective

1. tending to compel, as to force or push toward a course of action; overpowering:
There were compelling reasons for their divorce.

2. having a powerful and irresistible effect; requiring acute admiration, attention, or respect:
a man of compelling integrity; a compelling drama.

Did it make her glad? Yes. Was she encouraged? Yes. Did she find his support compelling? Uh, no.

Reagan 2.0?

You mean that divorced former Democrat whose kids, Ron and Patti particularly, were a constant source of embarrassment?

And you’re worried about Palin’s kids?

Judging by the reactions of some fellow FReepers, I apparently touched a nerve saying anything critical, though true, of Sarah Palin ‘ s political future.

I’m sure you know Reagan was already president when his rebelous adult children became a thorn in his side.
I also don’t recall the police being dispatched to break up a drunken family brawl during Mr. Reagan ‘ s political life.
I don’t believe you can honestly compare Mr. Reagan to Mrs. Palin in accomplishment, results, political trajectory, and dignity factor.

Your retort serves as a reminder, that for a number of fellow FReepers here, she is off limits to any pragmatic comments.
I will be more reverent going forward.

It certainly ”compelled” her to post about it.

A sloppy use of the adjective. I sincerely doubt she was "compelled" to post it. She did it because she had a desire to.

One could write, for example, about how Rachel Dolezal was "compelled" to pose as a black woman. That would be an accurate use of the term. Notwithstanding some desire to negatively slant her writings, I wouldn't categorize Palin's blog postings as being motivated by some "compelling" need.

She was praising his work with special needs children. Doesn’t necessarily mean an endorsement.

She probably should have guessed that a public compliment the day after an announcement of candidacy would be construed as an endorsement.

It’s unfortunate, but you almost always have to use a sarc tag to shield yourself from the knee-jerk posting crowd these days...

Yeah, I thought the “let me be first” would be clue enough. The whole business of writing people off as RINOs because they disagree on one thing is way out of hand. I call it being “conservatively correct”, as if a person’s whole life can be boiled down to a checklist of political positions.
