The first reports of the massive penetration of Office of Personnel Management files and security clearance applications apparently by Chinese hackers most likely working for, or with, that countrys military intelligence apparatus included grumbles from the affected employees that the administration didnt handle the situation very well.
Those early grumbles were but the snap responses of a few individual employees the media chose at random. Now that the millions of people potentially affected by the hack have been given a few days to digest the news and consider the Administrations response, their attitude has soured into what government employees described to BuzzFeed as collective panic.
It is interesting that the mainstream press has not exerted itself to collect a wide range of responses. Usually theyre all about the human-interest angle. Every news organization could easily talk to dozens, or hundreds, of federal employees and produce a piece like BuzzFeeds, but they have not.
Tellingly, only former government employees jeopardized by the hack were willing to go on the record with BuzzFeed. Current employees insisted on remaining anonymous.

One of these anonymous individuals was a homosexual diplomat who works in the Arab world, and now has doubts it will be safe to continue on that career path, since the hackers will know he recently married his same-sex spouse, and such things are viewed dimly in the countries where he has been working.
Sorry that I'm not real sorry about that.
But did they find Obama’s birth certificate and school records?
Doctors are busy updating personal and medical files of people so they can have complete picture of enemy citizens that are craving to live free. Obama knows about you and what pills you are taking!
Time to go Galt.
As a civilian who occasionally works on gov't computers, I have to pass a background check just like I did for my security clearance while in the military.
The most recent data submission was a LOT more detailed and intrusive than the one before that, and required a lot of data about other family members , friends and acquaintances. Now it turns out that my data has likely been compromised, along with data about family members, friends, co-workers and acquaintances who never asked to be in a government database. This is very disturbing..
I wonder, what recourse do any of us have? In the words of a cartoon character, I feel "I've been violated!".
****Didnt Obama say his soul duty is to protect the American people?****
Well since he may have no soul it would mean squat.
The rest of us have to worry about the Feds passport database too. Plenty of ID theft data there.
Nothing/nobody is immune to govt incompetentcy
That is correct. Likely an inside job as well.
maybe tens of thousands will quit
I realize I’m somewhat “old-fashioned”. However, shouldn’t these incompetents be fired?
All that stuff; both print and electronic was purged years ago by the Democrats, you should know that.
Its the usual continuous incompetency of the govt. Disgusting. Incompetent and then they patronize you to make it worse. Adding injury to injury!
let the pogroms begin
Are the legal departments at places like Brietbart totally in control of speech? This is a lawerly statement at best.
There are no hackers in China sitting around in their moms basement attacking large American federal institutions for fun.
ID theft is a sympton of technology. I grew up when the phone company would throw two books, white and yellow pages, on your doorstep for free full of names, addresses and phone numbers.
To steal that way back then would take too much investment and time to be profitable. But some did like stealing from your mailbox looking for checks they could forge, etc.
The thing that gets me is that OPM and the government spend billions on IT and my bank can protect my cards with them better.
The poor nsa weenies must have the vapors, since someone is exercising unreasonable search and seizure over them.

its always an inside job. Low tech, buy a password and you are in. The trick is covering your tracks on the way out.
Ummm, guys?
All kidding aside, they now have the dirt on the NSA employees: and can squeeze them like an orange to get into the NSA databases, and then they know everything about us in REAL TIME.

Actually I didn't write that, and I don't know who did.
