Black Students Are More Likely To Get ‘Ineffective’ Teachers: Report
New York Post ^ | June 13, 2015 | Yoav Gonen

Posted on 06/13/2015 7:17:33 AM PDT by lbryce

Black students in New York state are 44 percent more likely than white students to have a teacher rated “ineffective” in math, and 35 percent more likely to have one rated “ineffective” in English, startling new figures from the state Education Department show. The unprecedented analysis stemmed from the results of the statewide teacher-evaluation system, which for the first time required student performance on standardized exams to factor into teachers’ ratings.

Friends of ours, daughter (from a suburban family and school) had a goal and it was to be an inner-city teacher who could make a difference......first year, was pinned to the classroom floor, smacked around and threatened by a student/thug. She never went back.

Liars. They HAD an effective teacher right in front of them and mistreated him with total disrespect. The ignorance they end up with is EXACTLY what they deserve.

You can not teach those who do not want to learn.

I found that out the hard way. However, a child who does not want to learn CAN be motivated to learn, but the system will not allow use of those methodologies.

I had a similar experience with a land navigation drill. The sergeant Major laughed at the idea that there could be an equation for such things.

Guilty as charged. I’m a grammar nazi myself but responded in a bit of a rush, the words lining up with my thought patterns not the rules of grammar. :-)

This isn’t necessarily a result of school districts deliberately giving minority majority schools bad teachers.
It is as easily a result of affirmative action and self-segregation by minorities.

1. Give preference in college enrollment to blacks and hispanics, regardless of ability.
2. Too many sink to the department of education, because they can’t handle the rigor of that or ethnic studies, and unlike racial grievances, there are lots of teaching jobs.
3. They are passed by to get them by, affirmative action in grading. The knowledge testing done to verify teachers know the basics prove this, where a disproportionate number of minority teachers DO NOT know what a high school graduate should.
4. They get hired under affirmative action policies that allow less qualified teachers into the jobs in the name of meeting the demographic quotas.
5. The less qualified teachers are, under this system, disproportionately minority. And they are hired under preference in schools that are mostly ethnic minority, by administrators who either “hire their own” or hire minorities to make diversity quotas.
6. Decent white teachers are driven out because they are abused by students and administration alike, while darker teachers are tolerated regardless of quality.
7. Quality minority teachers who want to stay, do, but they are selected against because they can get better paying jobs in districts with higher standards, as well as a culture of mediocrity because white teachers are pushed out, as well.
8. Minority kids have inferior educations, because the system is biased toward tolerating inferior quality educators, due to affirmative action and bigotry of lowered expectations.

It never occurs to most that a teacher in 10 grade that has students that are at 3rd grade level hardly ever score at 11th grade level at the end of one year.

There are plenty of bad teachers but they can look pretty good if you give them all the smart students who will teach themselves.

Plus you could be let go for no reason

Any particular reason that teachers should have job protections that the rest of us don’t have?

But in defense of many teachers, their primary mission, even if unofficial, is probably making sure that unruly kids don’t kill each other.
____________

That is why homeschooling is so effective.

Add to that the breakdown of common-sense classroom discipline

Reason number one that I would NEVER even consider teaching as a profession. The schools are so desperate for that daily attendance money they won't get rid of the trouble makers and everyone suffers for it.

Principals can load up one teacher’s class with all the behavior problems and another teacher’s class with all the best students.

Standard practice when a teacher falls out of favor or gets too old to suit them. Old usually means higher salary.

Don’t forget the new policy of letting thugs in the classroom swear and beat up the teachers and not be suspended, that comes from the Dept. of No Education.
It’s racist don’t you know to suspend black students for such behaviour

This sounds more like a feedback loop than a cause and effect relationship.
