Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)96%, a 2016 Republican presidential candidate, defended his decision to vote for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) that would fast-track the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) and Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA)among other dealsduring a Thursday interview with the Hugh Hewitt radio program.
Hewitt started his line of questioning with coming out of a commercial. Lets take that opportunity, then, to go and talk about free tradeTPA, TPP, Export-Import Bank. Sen. Cruz, for claritys sake, can you quickly give us an overview on where you are on those three issues, as theres quite a lot of confusion among conservative voters as to where different people are and why on each of those three issues.
Sure, Cruz responded. There is a lot of confusion and, unfortunately, a lot of misinformation you can get on the Internet that people are confused, so lets explain what each of those three are.
Cruz, by saying that, was essentially making the exact same claimblaming the Internet for what he argues is misinformationas House Ways and Means Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)60%. Ryan made the claim on Fox News earlier on Thursday in response to Breitbart News reporting highlighted by the massively influential Drudge Report. Ryan, with whom Cruz pushed Obamatrade in a Wall Street Journal op-ed in late Aprilone thats been used by Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)40% to try to rally support for Obamatradehas been essentially discredited by various false statements hes made throughout this process.
That Cruz would use the same talking points as him is interesting and probably disappointing to many conservatives. That Boehner is using Cruz to push Obamatrade is probably even more disappointing to most conservatives... ...

So yes, you are a libertarian.
80% is certainly good enough for me, and it’s a whole lot better than what we’ve had to hold our noses to vote for in the past.
That said, are you saying Senator Cruz is wrong here? I honestly don’t know enough about it to say, but I would oppose any tricks that allow Obama to get around the 2/3 vote requirement for treaties. Agreements to let Obama negotiate and present a treaty for a simple up or down vote, i.e. no amendments, are fine with me as long as that final vote is 2/3.
Yes, black mark. But we don’t have to decide up or down on them today.
Being anti statist is solely in the realm of libertarianism then?
The secrecy is certainly a big problem. If it’s a good thing, why keep it secret from the American people?
There is a lot to like about Bobby Jindal. But time will tell.
Sen. Cruz wants TPA in force when he assumes office in 2017. This is the only way he can get it, since Democrat senators would filibuster a TPA when he is President. For this, Sen Cruz is willing to forgo the ability to filibuster Obama trade agreements, allowing them to pass with fifty votes plus Biden. The danger is that the immigration provisions in TiSA and some troublesome aspects of TPP might pass by a simple majority this Fall. If Obama thinks that these provisions won’t pass, he could veto TPA or signal Democrats to vote it down in either House. Sen. Cruz is willing to take the TiSA/TPP risk if he can get TPA while he is in office and obviously thinks that the risk is manageable. Cruz and Obama are playing poker. Sen. Cruz doesn’t want to show his hand until TPA is, in his mind hopefully, passed. Only Sen. Warren is sounding the alarm on the Democrat side. Sen. Cruz does not want to add fuel to the fire by engaging on the issue. That is why Sen. Cruz is driving some of his supporters to distraction by refusing to address the issue. He is also temporarily losing conservative bloodhounds like Matt Boyle at Breitbart who are just dong their job by demanding answers.
wow, you explained that GREAT. I wish you would post it everywhere ten time each lol.
He is MASSIVELY wrong. And for one reason. Forget everything else (although everything else matters very much as well). He is wrong to allow/vote for ANY... A N Y thing that empowers Obama to do anything including wipe himself after a dump.
Cruz is misleading you. You are bein Svengali’d.
Sessions was right on the Bush immigration nightmare in 07.
He seems to have confirmed what I spotted, he signed up to promote fellow libertarian Rand Paul, and dampen support for Cruz, while subtly promoting libertarianism, while thinking that no one would so easily recognize his hidden agenda, and that he could play the troll game, while playing innocent and spontaneous.

When I was in military intelligence, I had rooms full of safes with all kinds of “good” things kept secret from the American people.

I don’t believe a word of that post.

That sounds like the play of a typical politician.
