Decker: There are many near-death stories out there in which people recount being in a tunnel of light, hearing music, sometimes sensing a figure at the end of the tunnel, and then they come back to life. What do you know about what comes next?
Blatty: There are three things that assure me that what comes next is more life: 1. My Catholic faith; 2. my capacity to reason, as follows: Never in history -- never! has there been a universal yearning by all of mankind for something that does not exist. But we have all and everywhere desired perfect happiness. But if death means final extinction, perfect happiness is something mankind cannot have. And, 3. my messages from Peter as detailed in Finding Peter, messages that are not unique to me. All who have lost a loved one can have them. The trick is as expressed by a character in the movie, The Orphanage: First you must believe; then you will see.

“Never in history — never! has there been a universal yearning by all of mankind for something that does not exist.”
I have often thought this myself.
In other words. No proof at all.
The media does far too often take sentences (or portions of it) out of context for their own purposes.
Ice cream that makes you lose weight?
Well, good luck with that.
‘Never in history — never! has there been a universal yearning by all of mankind for something that does not exist.’
Uh... limited government comes to mind....
Pretty much the way I read it too. He offers nothing to the conversation. I'm a Christian and need no further proof than God's word and what I know to the depths of my being. My God is real.
Never in history never! has there been a universal yearning by all of mankind for something that does not exist.
This is a very simplistic way to phrase an ontological proof.
Kurt Gödel has the most complete proof. Kurt is most famous for his incompleteness theorem. Kurt was also a friend of Einstein and they walked together to Princeton every day. Kurt also did some work on Einstein’s relativity theorems.

Prove to the deaf that there is a sense of hearing; sight to the blind.
Faith is the greatest of all, and you only have to initiate contact with a desire to truly know. If you are truthful in your heart about that desire, He will answer the knock on His door.
What happens after is remarkable.
The yearning for that is certainly not universal as evidenced by many in this country who wish to be ruled rather than be responsible for their own choices.
Keith Richards?
Human kind often questions where they will go
after they die.
They seldom ask where they were before they
were born...
When my husband’s grandfather died a few years ago, he left us over a period of days in the hospital.
He was probably the most Godly man I’ve ever known, but not in a lord-it-over-you way...he was completely humble.
The things he said, and saw, as he lay dying in that hospital, would have convinced me to investigate Christianity if I were a non-believer. There was an atmosphere in the room that was almost holy...even the doctors and nurses said they hadn’t seen anything like it.
Personally I think the Lord did it not only to ease him over, but to give us reassurance.
As is seen with his latest environmental comments...he is being taken out of context...probably on purpose
But there has in the past been a universal yearning of all mankind for something that does exist.
I’m gonna go with the guy up there and his weight-loss ice cream. That’s a hell of a deal.
That sounds absolutely wonderful.
This is good to read, probably worth a vanity thread to delineate what he saw. I believe in these things.
“Naked came I from my mothers womb, and naked I shall return there, and in all this Job was found blameless in the eyes of the Lord.
