Amidst the media euphoria surrounding the former Bruce Jenner’s gender reassignment surgery and cover photo on Vanity Fair, a 74-year-old transsexual who deeply regrets his decision has come forward to caution those who think that transgenderism solves people’s psychosexual problems.
In a CNN interview on Tuesday, Walt Heyer warned viewers that the relief accompanying gender reassignment surgery doesn’t last. After Jenner expressed exhilaration over the Vanity Fair cover, Heyer responded that such elation is normal, but transient.
Heyer acknowledged that “this is really the most exciting time in a transgender’s life.” It is, he said, “the debut,” when “all the things that you had hoped and thought about are coming about.” From personal experience, however, and from the many transgender people who write to him, Heyer says he knows “this doesn’t always last.”
“It’s sort of like, you know, going down to the bar and you’re having a good time and you drink it up good and then, you know, you wake up with a hangover,” he said.
In an essay earlier this year, Heyer offered a chilling autobiographical account of abuse and gender confusion, sexual reassignment surgery, a short reprieve from anxiety and eventually deep regret at his decision.
Heyer, now reverted to his male identity and married to his wife for 18 years, spends his energy raising public awareness of the disastrous penalties of gender reassignment.

I read a story about one of the sex abuse victims of Jimmy Saville in the UK and it was mentioned that the person was transgendered.
I enjoy my beer. And I enjoy having a great time and over indulging with friends once in a while. I get a hangover. But the difference between chopping my manhood off and butchering my face to look like a freaking clown is I recover from a hangover with some fried eggs and seltzer water.
Isn’t Jenner like, 65 years old? How long can he imagine he’s going to trip the light fantastic as a woman.

Comments for anyone - Some people think this might be some sort of sexual freedom but it can be a form of slavery. A slightly different tack is that we are being programmed to be dissatisfied with our circumstances. The message to the masses is that no matter what we have or do not have we should always want something different. The message to the masses should be rejected. People are more substantial than their base desires.
Your familiarity with gay pages and your penchant for nude men in bathtubs may have some significance to you but their significance to anything completely escapes me. Why don’t you share what it is you are babbling about?
That word SUPPORTIVE leapt off the page. This is one of those liberal poisoned words that has taken many people in our society off the right track. How many children have been harmed by well meaning parents who thought they were being good loving parents by being “supportive”. This word first became popular in the mass media since about the seventies or eighties.
We rarely heard the word supportive before then but suddenly it was all over television and ordinary people started repeating this term in conversation. It is not the only word that has been made into a household usage, usually they represent liberal outlooks.
Thanks for the link. In reading the article, I ran across this statement, “As a result, some states – California, New Jersey, and Massachusetts – have passed laws barring psychiatrists, even with parental permission, from striving to restore natural gender feelings to a transgender minor,”
I would think a law such as this would be in conflict with patient privacy laws. I guess the legislatures in those states have now given themselves permission to peer into the private conversations of psychiatrists and their patients. This is a nail in the coffin of psychiatry as a viable medical profession.
