~ New System Available on 2016 Volvo Drive-E Family Engines ~
VANCOUVER, May 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ - Westport Innovations Inc. (TSX:WPT / NASDAQ:WPRT), engineering the world's most advanced natural gas engines and vehicles, today announced the opportunity to view Westport's new combustion technology in Volvo Car Group's new Drive-E powertrain bi-fuel engine at the World Gas Conference (WGC) in Paris, France from June 1 to 5 (www.wgc2015.org).
Volvo Cars is the first OEM to feature the new Westport system. It will be used on Volvo's new two-litre, direct injection, four-cylinder Drive-E powertrain family, which will be available on the Volvo V60 and V70 2016 models.
"This is the first chance for fleets and industry leaders outside of Sweden to have a look at the new powertrain that combines Volvo's new Drive-E petrol engine with Westport's gas technology in a highly efficient bi-fuel engine," said Anders Johansson, Managing Director, Westport Sweden. "We're excited to showcase Westport's turnkey solution that includes technology research and development, production, installation and market support."
Part of the Volvo Engine Architecture family ranked as one of the best engine families in the world this engine offers 245 HP and 350NM in torque with emissions as low as 40g CO2/km (according to the Swedish Transport Administration's calculation method for BIOMETHAN), and is expected to be one of the greenest, most powerful natural gas engines in the world.

Currently the Volvo Bi-Fuel has been sold only in Sweden; however, Westport is open to introducing this model in other markets in Europe depending on customer demand, and will be showcasing the vehicle at a number of dealerships in Belgium and Germany before and after WGC.

That goes right to the heart of a Volvo owner.
Volvos, for better or worse, have lost their distinction. They’re much harder to pick out of a lineup and don’t have any noticeable edge in safety or technology. They are still favorites of soccer moms in northern climates. Even Subarus have lost their previous personality.
Not interested in buying a car made by Communist China and profiting the People’s Liberation Army (which is a key investor in Geely which owns Volvo). But thank you for the information.
I am going a different direction. I have an eye toward restoring a 1978 Ferrari 308GTS. Different strokes for different folks.
I got one on reserve. I think the back end is clunky looking but I can do something about that with a little paint and a little judicious trimming. I wish the company were more forthcoming about things like the type of transmission it has and other details of the power train. It just says manual or automatic. I think a vehicle of this size and weight should have a belt drive like the maxi scooters of which I have owned two. As an old MC man I was dubious when these things first made it into mid size bikes but then drove one. I like it and the belts hold up very well, enough to be cheaper to use than a chain and more efficient than a geared transmission.
My manual says to change the belt after 10k miles. I have over 30k on the current scoot and the belt does not show the signs of wear that one should look for as a sign that it should be changed.
If I had one I’d rig up a hose so I could grab the tank off my BBQ and throw it in the trunk to get to work on. Maybe something where you could screw in a torch size tank in the dash just to get a mile down the road also...
My dear departed wife used to race her MGA twin cam in these races on frozen PA lakes back in the late 1950s. There was a lake with an island on it they called “Saab Island” because so many Saabs spun out and landed on the Island ...

Sounds like they required your attention.
When I met my then future brother-in-law in 1960, he took me for a ride in his MG. He was immediately all right with me. Still is.

The stock market doesn’t seem to think much of the company.
Yup, she said she had to carry a case of oil in the trunk of her twin cam A just to make a round trip to the Jersey shore and back to Lebanon. She rued the day she traded her standard A for the twin cam. As I recall, a twin cam MGA sold on Barrett-Jackson for over $100K recently.
