It is hardly surprising that many Americans see ISIS as a vastly more brutal, more threatening version of Al Qaeda -- especially given the many Republican presidential candidates climbing over each other with plans to obliterate the group. But the perception is mistaken.
While Al Qaedas strategy focuses on catastrophic attacks against the United States, ISIS seeks to capture and hold territory for its caliphate and to stoke a sectarian conflict between Sunni and Shia. The group has no known experience carrying out long-distance covert operations, and no senior federal official has yet pointed to any ISIS plotting against the U.S. at home. Charlie Hebdo and other recent attacks have been the work of wannabes who seek to show they are part of the same historical drama of jihadist revival as ISIS. So far as we know, they are inspired, not directed by the group.

Hey Danny, they kill gays too.
Yeah, all those beheadings are just a figment of our collective imaginations. /s/ *eyes rolling*
“In other words, the conflict is not now principally about us.”
So, let’s wait until it is before doing anything, is that right? Wait until they have training camps the size of Ft. Benning operating in Mexico.
In the words of John McEnroe, "You can not be serious!".
This a$$hat has his head so deep in the sand he should be able to smell Pelosi's feet. This is not Disney world trying to conquer mosquitos. He suggests that ISIS doesn't want to kill Americans they only want to occupy land and rule themselves on conquered territories. We shouldn't be concerned. REALLY? Why are they in Mexico then? Are they thinking about taking over the tequila industry?
If Americans (in general) weren't so stupid, an article like this would cause mass panic for the egregious and intentional deception. This is either incompetence or fraud in the name of propaganda.
Did he forget ISIS said they are going to behead Obama?
That's pretty disingenuous because decentralization is the organizational strategy of international terrorism. Inspiring foreign muslims is how ISIS implements its goals in the west. Criticizing a culture is forbidden on social media and will get you booted but calling for murder and destruction is just fine.
They worry about whether other countries subsidize abortion generously enough and whether they celebrate homosexuality with enough enthusiasm, but they don’t care about mass murder, systematic rape, and the expansion of slavery? The New york Times disgusts me.

The only explaination that makes sense to me is that this is part of a larger delaying pattern to tell people “not to worry about ISIS” and give them time to grow and get stronger.
Exaggerated threats...
Ah hell. I was going to post pictures of these “exaggerated threats” but it is too barbaric and disgusting to look at what these savages do in the M.E. and what they want to bring to the rest of the world.
Slaughtering children, raping women, burning men. Christians, Yazidis, Kurds, Mulsims. They are slaughtering them all.

Like Boston, Major Nidal, the recent Texas cartoon attack and others. I feel better, no one minds being killed in attacks like that.
So as long as they only hold onto rich Iraqi oil fields, completely destroy a promisingly civil society that America expended blood and treasure to build, and murder some Christians and Yazidis, they aren’t brutal or threatening, because they haven’t directly attacked America...yet. More like a 2015 ostrich.
Absolutely. Looks like fun.
