Last weekend was Memorial Weekend, honoring our fallen soldiers who lost their lives defending our country and our flag. Last weekend a US Forest Ranger came through our campground at Devils Elbow, which is Idaho Panhandle National Forest Land. He told our camp host, Butch & Sharon, they had to take down their US Flag. He refused. I don't know the outcome of his refusal, their is a chance he will loose his job. But he states he will not take down his flag. We also do not know if this ranger was acting on his own, or if this is a decision made by the US Forest Rangers. But whatever, this should NEVER be an issue in the United States of America.
The US Forest Rangers are paid by us, with us tax dollars. Butch and Sharon have every right to fly an American Flag. I am so thankful he did not take it down. They are Heroes in my book. He asked us to wait a week to make this known, so his bosses could contact US Forest Service. So I waited. This was why we painted our faces - a protest. We put flags all around our site. I want to say here it was not American Land & Leisure his bosses, but the US Forest Service. Please pray Butch & Sharon do not loose their jobs.
Here are some addresses if you wish to voice your complaint: US Forest Service, 1400 Independence Ave, SW, Washington DC 20250-1111. Idaho Panhandle Forest Headquarters, 381 Schreiber Way, Coeur d'Alene ID 83815. You can also contact your congressman & senator.
We camp often.......really surprised by this.
American flags are a staple at campgrounds.
Turns out that Yogi and Boobu were right.... Sad.
I feel like getting a temporary tattoo of the flag on my forehead.
The forest ranger ought to be taken down.
FR has an HTML page
We discovered during the government “shutdown” that we really don’t own our public lands and monuments.
Someone needs to remind that US ranger who’s paying his salary.
Remember how quickly and forcefully the Park Service “rangers” shut down access to all national parks and monuments when zero wanted to make the budget fight hurt all Americans. At that point I saw who the future enemy can be. Zero is setting up all sorts of ‘brown shirt’ divisions in this country, so keep your eyes open...
Easy Answer,
Get a Lawyer, file a “Deprivation of Rights “ suit against the Ranger PERSONALLY, then go to the Local Sheriff’s Office and swear out a Formal Citizens Arrest alleging FELONY EXTORTION. The mere fact that he ordered a person to take down their own personal property under the THREAT of Government Action against them for refusing is BLACK LETTER EXTORTION and it is a FELONY in every State.
Furthermore merely threatening Criminal Action in a Civil Matter is also Black Letter FELONY EXTORTION. I would have had him arrested already.
“Take down that flag.”
A great many Japanese and Germans died for speaking those words.
The ranger should consider himself lucky and STFU.
Your sentence describing whose job will be lost eludes me.
Is the Forest Ranger going to lose his job or will one of your “hosts?”

and put this > after the last “ (no space)
Exactly. He said it may be because someone put up an American Flag atop of a large pine tree. http://cdapress.com/news/local_news/article_2f5b23d7-767e-5e28-b174-65b69c0942f7.html
Forest service upset about this.
There is something off about this story.
There are flags flying in every campground I see.
I will venture a guess and say that the flag was flying from a tree, draped over a branch or somehow violating a rule of the campground.
I have been in campgrounds from Cape Cod through Death Valley, from Alabama to Seattle, and there have been flags in almost every camp site, let along the entire campground.
