A store owner in Davie took matters into his own hands, tackling a would-be thief outside of his store, and this wasn't your everyday shoplifter.
The thief was trying to walk out of the Public Pawn and Gun at 6798 Stirling Road with an assault rifle stuffed down his pants.
"By the time he left I noticed a bulge in his pants, so I followed him out," said owner, Kevin Hughes. "I didn't want to have an altercation in the store... too many customers and employees here."
Surveillance video shows the 19-year-old suspect, Marlon Alvarez, inspecting the three-foot long firearm inside the store for quite some time, then stuffed it down his pants and under his sweatshirt.

Theft from an FFL. Federal offense. Go directly to jail. Do not pass GO, don’t collect $200.
This is my rifle, and this is my gun, this is for fighting and this is for fun.
Is that a banana clip in your pocket...
Good that they spotted him but most gun shops I know of have their rifles on racks behind the counter and pistols in cases. When you want to look at a gun, the employee clears it and lets you inspect it. More importantly, they do not leave you alone with it, I’d say in Miami especially!
I can only think of one little gun shop where rifles are on the racks in front of the counter and they are nearly all bolt action or single, double shot shotguns.
Bad sales practice IMO.
It would have been a valuable public service to shoot the SOB.
Pickpocketing level: Awesome.
I’ve been in stores that have lots of used long guns out on the floor, but keep the new ones and handguns behind the counter.
Like I said, I know of only one in the seven or eight stores I regularly frequent.
Good ol Florida man never lets us down!
Lol. Very good. I hadn’t thought of that variation on the old line.
He lost his sweatshirt so he’s not sweating the charges.
It doesn’t take a high IQ to go into the criminality professions.
“I can only think of one little gun shop where rifles are on the racks in front of the counter and they are nearly all bolt action or single, double shot shotguns.”
I have been in numerous gun shops where the rifles and shotguns are on racks available for inspection to any customer. Pistols are always behind glass or otherwise out of reach, because they are too easily pilferable.
I only see the rifles and shotguns out of reach in higher crime areas or for very expensive models...
AGAIN! I repeat, in my area! What is so hard to understand about that?

Nothing. I thought your contribution was valuable.
I thought people would like to know what others experienced.
Then I sincerely apologize... my bad. mea culpa.
Who Threw That AR At Me !?
He should have got it one piece at a time. That way it wouldn’t have cost him a dime.
