A Pennsylvania newspaper has issued an apology after it printed a letter calling for the execution of President Barack Obama.
The letter, printed on Memorial Day in the Daily Item of Sunbury, called the president the coward-in-chief and called for his execution by guillotine, firing squad or public hanging.
Hey Barack, would you care to address the nation and expound on your grandiose plans for defeating this JV team which is whipping you soundly?, W. Richard Stover of Lewisburg, Pa. wrote in the 370-word letter.
The newspaper issued an apology Thursday, saying there was no excuse for printing the letter.
No bells went off when the editor handling the letter ............

Very well-written letter, and he didn’t really call for the execution of Obama. Media is lying.
They shouldn’t have even apologized. This was the writer’s opinion, not the paper’s. Hey, at least he didn’t accompany his article with graphic illustrations. That may have rung a few alarm bells, maybe.

The conclusion may be understandably objectionable, but the impetus remains a valid concern: a great deal was sacrificed (in no small definition of the term)...to what end?

I didn't read anything in that letter directly goading or encouraging people to harm the President.

This is an opinion letter not something written by anyone at the newspaper. I hope more people actually read the letter. It did not actually call for Obamas execution but rather a “regime change”. I think this was absolutely called for especially on Memorial Day. What better day to think about the current administrations stance on everything that our fallen soldiers have fought for. They couldn’t care less.

The letter writer didn’t mean “execution” in any other sense than Ø meant when he promised to “execute” the laws.
