Maybe...but FIFA has done lots of corrupt things over two decades, and most of the figureheads of the organization need some real jail-time. Just on tax avoidance for the illicit money they took in....they need jail-time.

Am not sure how this effects the USA or what they believe their Jurisdiction is
I assume the DOJ feels crimes were committed in the USA?
It certainly does seem strange. It would be like the European Union going after the NFL.

I don't see why this is our fight. The U.S. is a respectable mid-major player in men's soccer, but I would guess that the rest of the world will find it pretty cheeky for the U.S. to reach out to police their game.
Maybe the Brazilians, Dutch, French, and others should start bringing lawsuits against the NCAA, NFL, and NBA for assorted misdeeds? After all, they all have foreign players, and international betting interest. That's enough of a nexus. How about a judge in Buenos Aires setting the rules for the NFL?

This strikes me as a way to accomplish two things, the wonder and splendor of a global lawyery order with Dudley Do-Wrong at the fore, and the ousting of the incumbent Swiss in favor of the Jordanian Prince.

This was long underway before anyone heard of Loretta Lynch. But they can heap all the bad PR on her they want. OK by me.

Thing of it is, worse things could happen than handing leadership of big soccer over to Jordan. The thing that grates is the micromanaging nature of the timing in something that means a lot to a lot of people, that doesn’t mean a lot to us.

I wouldn’t say “just launched”, 47 count indictments take years to build, especially if it’s crossing international boundaries. This probably dates back to at least Mukasey.

Going after crime is fine, by all means. What is not cool is mucking about with the politics when we could give a crap. This will reflect dishonorable on the whole country.
