The PennySaver, an advertising newsletter that was a fixture in Southern California mailboxes for decades, is going out of business.
Employees said they were told late Friday that the company was ceasing operations immediately, without warning or further explanation.
They said, Thats it. Were done. Were closing. Everybody pack up your things and leave,' said one employee, who asked that her name not be published because she was unauthorized by the company to talk to the news media.

On its website, OpenGate said the PennySaver is the largest direct mail shopping publication in the United States, reaching 11 million people weekly. The publication includes coupons for a variety of businesses and advertisements for garage sales, pets, rental homes, new and used cars, and other items and services.

What are they going to do... fire her?
Not true....
You just need to delete the first ad you put in and then re-insert it....goes to the top of the list again.
Free classifieds leading to the demise of newspapers. MOOC's leading to the demise of universities. Napster, etc. undermining the music industry.
Maybe there's hope after all that the liberals will self-destruct before they completely remake society in their depraved image.
Older technology superseded by newer.
Grudge-based hopes have a way of boomeranging on you, because they poison your worldview.
My hopes are more Drudge-based than Grudge-based. ;-)

Deadtree Media was doomed as soon as the internet caught on.
The lost and found section in CL has helped a lot of people get reunited with their pets over the years. It’s actually a pretty good thing in the more rural areas.
I’ve done a fair amount of selling used technology on CL from time to time and found people as a rule here in SC fairly good to deal with.
Every so often I browse for sale in my state and Charlotte to see if there is something out there.
I’ve tried selling an old Blazer (bucket of bolts) on Ebay a few times. Either no sales or deadbeat bidders. I may try again on CL. The main reason I have been hesitant is that I don’t like people that I don’t know poking around close to home or offsite storage.
In Canada, it's Kijiji that doing the lunch eating and it isn't just PennySaver and the want ads in newspapers. A few months ago I was looking for a new truck and I was amazed that for every ad for cars and trucks in AutoTrader, Kijiji had about 5. It would seem clear as to who is going to be hanging out the next 'Going out of business' sign.
I have never thought that craigslist was run as a Hobby,,, nope
Penny saver was a dollar loser
The realization came when they couldn’t meet the payroll
there are segments ads that are paid..it appears
the”classifieds” were never like this.../
Just think how many trees will be saved.
thats not a bad profit
given that craiglist has used the “peace symbol” aka the ban the bomb symbol, as their logo for years it doesn’t appear that craigslist is owned by a “consrvative”...
thats a distinct possibility!
The PennySaver also operated in Rochester, NY, as far back as the 1960s or 1970s.
