Ireland`s newspapers said Sunday that the country had dramatically changed and confirmed its emergence from the shadow of the traditionally powerful Catholic Church by voting in favour of gay marriage.
Tabloids and broadsheets alike carried colourful pictures of partying "Yes" supporters cheering the landslide referendum result Saturday as they reflected on what the decision meant for Ireland.
The Sunday Independent, Ireland`s biggest-selling newspaper, said the vote was truly "historic".
"A new beginning" said its front page, which carried a picture of a lesbian couple who plan to marry as others in the background jumped in the air waving the rainbow flag.
"On a fine day in May 2015 this country became a much more open, inclusive and modern society. With the mark of a ballot paper, hundreds of thousands of citizens voted by a large majority to leave behind those grey decades of a less tolerant Ireland," the broadsheet`s editorial said.
"Ireland has changed, changed utterly... in the voice of its young people, who have declared as one that nothing will ever be the same again."
The Irish Sun on Sunday`s front page read "Pride", with a picture of cheering Yes supporters.
"Ireland officially emerged from the shadow of the Catholic Church yesterday to show its love and respect to people who have suffered here for centuries," it said. The Sunday World, Ireland`s most-read tabloid, had jubilant drag queen Panti Bliss, a key figure in the "Yes" campaign, on its front page which read "Táll you need is love" -- tá meaning yes in Irish.

Ireland is already being depopulated by abortion and small families. Liberal utopia.
After the vote: Gay marriage! It's a really big deal!
RE: with the homosexual lobby also want gay Confession? gay Baptism? gay Communion?
1) Gay Catholics have already been baptized — just after they were born.
2) Do receive communion should they g to mass ( no one is asked about his sexual orientation during a mass ).
3) I don’t know whether or not they are asked if they have gone through gay marriage in a confessional setting, nor are they required to confess this. But if they are “married” via a “gay” ceremony, and they do not confess this, then I don’t know how they can receive absolution.
A little discussed feature of the Global Village.
Actually, the astounding speed at which the world is sliding into chaos makes me hopeful that God will soon do some sorting out and the travail will be done with.
I know that Christians have a lot left to endure, maybe even the ultimate sacrifice. Satan is being given full rein now. But think how wonderful things are going to be when he is finally put where he belongs along with his followers! We can’t imagine how wonderful but it’s comforting to try.
I’ve pretty much stopped hoping that this world will ever be a fit place to live ever again. It’s gone too far.
I was referring to SPECIAL gay-only rites for each of those sacraments, as perverted as gay “marriage” is to normal male/female marriage.
This happened so easily because Ireland has no conservative political parties. Not even a minor one really. A pro-lifer in Fine Gael left them to found “Renua Ireland” but her new party is officially neutral on abortion and she was for this. The only conservative parties on the whole island are NI Unionist Parties like the DUP.
Fine Gael has a right wing but they don’t control the party. Conservatives in Fine Gael were afraid to oppose this and face party discipline.
There doesn’t appear to have been any organized NO campaign at all.
Only Catholics today in Ireland are Polish.
Christian evolution takes strange turns in some strange places
