On Friday, President Obama spoke at a Jewish American Heritage Month celebration being held at the Adas Israel synagogue in Washington, D.C.
Wearing a yarmulke, Obama addressed his Jewish gravitas, citing his two Jewish former chiefs of staff, saying he has been called America's "first Jewish president" by Jeffrey Goldberg, who recently interviewed him for The Atlantic. Goldberg was in attendance.

He is all three.
That's the frightening part of these eight terrible years. He's lazy and stupid, and he's still managed an amazing amount of destruction. The Antichrist will be both energetic and brilliant - we'll be in deep trouble when we have to face the real thing.

I was just thinking. Has there ever been a Jewish president?
I can’t think of one off hand.
"Axle-Rod here said I was the first Gay Greek President."
After following a few links, I found this article:
Barack Obama Is Such a Traditional Jew Sometimes (March 11, 2012)
(I searched, and unless something went wrong with the search, there wasn't a thread here about this article.)
This seems to be the part that most succinctly explains "traditional Jew":
Once again, Barack Obama was riffing off the cosmic joke that he is somehow anti-Semitic, when in fact, as many people understand, he is the most Jewish president we've ever had (except for Rutherford B. Hayes). No president, not even Bill Clinton, has traveled so widely in Jewish circles, been taught by so many Jewish law professors, and had so many Jewish mentors, colleagues, and friends, and advisers as Barack Obama (though it is true that every so often he appoints a gentile to serve as White House chief of staff). And so no President, I'm guessing, would know that the Maxwell House Haggadah -- the flimsy, wine-stained, rote, anti-intellectual Haggadah you get when you buy a can of coffee at Shoprite) -- is the target, alternatively, of great derision and veneration among American Jews (at least, I'm told there are people who venerate it).
The first mention of the Maxwell House Haggadah is earlier in the article: a joke attributed to Obama as he was browsing a newer haggadah for which Jeffrey Goldberg contributed commentary.
Here I'll point out that I know about the Maxwell House Haggadahs (I even know offhand that the Hebrew plural is more like "haggadot"). I'm not Jewish, and I've never been interested in converting; neither do I have Jewish relatives, a high number of Jewish acquaintances, or any relationship like that. I have never participated in a seder. I do have an interest in religious rites and texts. (I even have a free copy of the new Maxwell House Haggadah, though I've never studied it beyond confirming that it was the new version of 2011 or so, with more Gender Inclusivity.) Interest, though, does not make me Jewish.
I wouldn't expect someone else, even a president, to be "Jewish" by influence or transfer. (If this account is accurate, I'd expect his knowledge of the Maxwell House Haggadah to come most naturally through conversations with at least one of the Jews of his acquaintance.)
I'm reminded of this very recent thread:
Spanish-language media dub Jeb Bush 'Latino' 2016 candidate
It's early in the process, but Spanish-language U.S. media is seeing former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, a likely candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, as one of their own.Bush is a fluent Spanish speaker and married to a Mexican, leading some Spanish-language media outlets to identify him as a "Latino" candidate, even though he's very much white.
