The president of the Boy Scouts of America on Thursday called for an end to the group’s blanket ban on gay adult leaders, warning Scout executives that “we must deal with the world as it is, not as we might wish it to be,” and that “any other alternative will be the end of us as a national movement.”
At the same time, religious organizations that sponsor a majority of local Scout troops, including the Mormons and Roman Catholics, should remain free to set their own policies for leaders, said the president, Robert M. Gates, the former director of the C.I.A. and the former secretary of defense.
Mr. Gates called for the changes at an annual national meeting of the group, in Atlanta. He said that he was not yet making a formal proposal but that the Scouts’ governing body should take up the issue formally at a future meeting.
The treatment of gay men and boys has been a source of wrenching debate over the last decade. Conservative religious groups that sponsor many Scout troops, including the Mormon Church and the Roman Catholic Church, have opposed the participation of openly gay members while local leaders in more liberal areas have called for an end to the ban.
In 2013, Boy Scout leaders from across the country voted, with more than 60 percent approval, to say that no youth may be denied membership “on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone.” But it left intact the policy that no openly gay adults could serve in the organization.
Since then, a Scout group in New York has defied that policy by employing an openly gay leader, and several other groups around the country have expressed opposition to the ban.

This is why I am no longer a Scout Master and my son no longer a Scout. Saw this handwriting two years ago and left because I knew what was coming.

Makes no sense to me to open the door to molestation of young boys by mentally deranged sex perverts. Get rid of all within the Scouting organization that would put young boys in danger, or the only alternative to keep the child safe is to keep the child out of Scouting.
To promote gays in Scouting is immensely irresponsible.
The Scouts just banned water pistols. Maybe they’ll substitute “water sports” instead. (Look it up, if you have the stomach for it.)

(Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)
12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.
13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.
14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.
15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.
16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.
20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.
21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.
22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms."
23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. "Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art."
24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.
25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."
27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a "religious crutch."
28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state."
29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man."
31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the "big picture." Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.
32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.
34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.
36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.
38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].
39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.
40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

No normal person, especially one who has sons, who make such a statement.

A person would have to be a fool to think that gay scout leaders would NOT take the opportunity to leer at them!
Do these people not pay attention to what gay lifestyles are all about? They don’t have boundaries and age is definitely not one they will entertain if the opportunity presents itself.
One group is the paid national leadership you read about here. They make their money from large corporate sponsorships which have been vulnerable to attacks from the gay lobby. I been involved in Scouting for 15 years and I can't tell you what it is that they do for this money.
The second group is the local volunteers, most often parents, that work directly with the boys. It is this group which decides what to do, who the leaders are, and what the group standards will be.
If the national organization goes ahead with this, the local leaders will just quit and the whole organization will be destroyed.
Exactly, and ephebophilia isn’t even defined as a mental illness if it doesn’t negatively affect your life. Some sexologists, Fred Berlin for instance, say that MOST men can be attracted to late adolescents and we just purposely don’t act on it. I’ll say it again, no one would think an organization based on middle aged straight men taking 15 year old girls out in the woods is appropriate.

The world lost this at the first compromise, way back in the Garden.
It’s why I tell scouts at my door I won’t buy their popcorn. Their organization is corrupt. They do not understand.

And yes, they ARE already calling for resistant Church-sponsored troops to be subdued by the new rules.

Yes, on the one hand that is true. But the fact that we can choose right from wrong is what leaves us continually guilty. We choose wrong most of the time unless it is self-serving to choose right.
Some people use their theology to claim that no one can help doing wrong. I disagree with that perspective. We can help it but we choose not to most of the time. If we were 100% evil 100% of the time the argument could be made that we are not guilty because we can’t help it. We can help it. Sometimes we choose right, even if from selfish motives. We are guilty.
As for this subject, you would think the self interest of raising a wholesome son would motivate parents to do something about this. But people have ceased caring or they have inverted the definition of right from wrong: Good is evil and evil is good.
We could turn things around by humbling ourselves and repenting before God. More likely than not it will take judgment. Sad. Remember after 9/11 how churches suddenly filled up and everyone seemed to remember their accountability toward God and were calling on Him for help? We humans are stupid in that way. We have to be slapped in the face with the consequences before we turn around.

I saw a little cub scout yesterday, walking with his mom. It was wonderful, and reminded me of what it felt like to earn a patch or a badge, and just the innocence of youth.
We should be fighting to preserve what is innocent in life - not becoming jaded and cynical and letting our children be affected by the ‘world we live in’. Children should be given the chance to grow and make the world a better place, not become victims of it. Sex, hetero or otherwise should not be a topic that has anything to do with scouting. If someone, anyone, of any orientation makes their sex life and/or orientation a public issue, and that’s important to them, then stay away from scouting. It’s not about that.
For many liberals, the only freedom they want and respect is sexual, so it is ALL they advocate for, to the exclusion of anything else. So you get far more political force behind anything (abortion, extra-marital sex, homosexual marriage, government paid STD testing) that says “free love without consequences”.

It’s over for the Boy Scouts.
I just found this page ( http://www.scouting.org/BSAFoundation/ContactInformation.aspx ) with all sorts of email addy’s and I sent to almost all of them the following letter:
Dear BSA,
Make no mistake they are not “gay” they are homosexual and the only reason they wish to be scout leaders is to prey on young boys.
It that what you want to be a part of? If my kid was abused by a scout leader I would sue EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO ALLOWED THE LEADER INTO THE SCOUTS INCLUDING PRESIDENT GATES. (and you personally)
My money quit going to BSA after you allowed homosexual kids to camp with straight kids and my guess is that BSA will cease to be an organization if you allow homosexual leaders.
Deal with Americans (who are 97% straight) as they are ... not what Gates wants US to be. REMEMBER what you are supposed to teach the young men?
Remember the scout oath:
On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and MORALLY STRAIGHT.
God doesn’t change, the BSA shouldn’t either.
