The push to end so-called conversion therapy against homosexuality is expected to gear up Tuesday with the introduction of a House bill to ban the therapy nationally.
The bill comes a few weeks before a consumer fraud lawsuit described as a David and Goliath battle over the therapy begins in New Jersey, and in the wake of a request for a federal probe into whether the therapys marketing and practices are deceptive and dangerous.
Opponents of sexual orientation change efforts, such as Reps. Ted W. Lieu and Jackie Speier, both California Democrats, say being homosexual is not a disorder or illness, and efforts to change ones sexual orientation are wrong and harmful.
Supporters of such therapy counter that it has helped many people successfully reduce or eliminate their unwanted same-sex attractions, and its wrong to trample peoples rights to seek the counseling of their choice.
Mr. Lieus new bill, the Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act, was prepared after President Obamas senior adviser, Valerie Jarrett, said the White House supported a national ban on conversion therapy for minors.
I am ecstatic that the leader of the free world has called for an end to gay conversion therapy. And I commend President Obama for recognizing reparative therapy for the crappery that it is, Mr. Lieu told a reporter for Frontiers Media on Monday.

Any man who does not find these women attractive and would love to be with them certainly has a mental illness
You have a difficult time accepting what? That homosexual men are not particularly attracted to women? What would constitute poof? Clinical experiments with arousal-measuring gizmoes? There's that, too.
We have no Constitution. Just color of law and “make it up” as you go along.
but it is OK to recruit and brainwash kids as young as 4 to think they’re attracted to the same sex or dressing them as the opposite sex.
These idiots in the house should be ashamed of themselves of they have nothing better to do than this crap/
Or a very serious biological or chemical deficiency. In either case, they clearly need help.
That any guy is really THAT screwed up in the head.
So, they'll be banning smoking cessation programs for the same reason?
Queers are mentally ill...the pics won’t do it.
I had a homo hairstylist once...he said he tried to have sex with a woman, but it made him sick and he threw up.
That’s deepseated crazy.
Can’t put a square peg in a round hole.
Well, I guess I am going to have to take #2 then.
This is true...
Are you counting from the top? 3 is the last one. :)
Congress has officially gone Freaking nuts.
I will take the brunette in the black bikini. I want to be sure she isn’t left out. :-)
So, let me see if understand this. If you want to change your sex and become the opposite sex its all right to getmedical/psychological therapy to do that, even though there are lots of physical risks in doing so, and the outcome may be very bad both physically and psychologically, but if you are homosexual and you think you want to be a heterosexual, it is not all right because the therapy might not work, even though there is no physical danger whatsoever, and so you must remain a homosexual. Seems to me this is a civil rights issue, if it is legal to change your physical sex, why is it not legal to change your psychological sex? And, off hand, I have another question, what what if you are a heterosexual and want to become a homosexual?
It’s either a birth defect or a mental illness, take your pick.
Either way, these poor people need help.
Just kidding. They’re of course all gorgeous.
Because homosexuality is NOT provably genetic and comprises less than 2% of the population, how can attempts to correct to biological norms be outlawed?
This legislation is aimed at the destruction of NARTH and Dr. Nicolosi’s brilliant and successful work. If you listen to some of his talks, the developmental nature of homosexuality, and its cure, makes perfect sense. The real fraud is sodomy itself, which is nothing more than a desperate act of “reparitive therapy” which attempts to heal the wounded masculine image.
