Dear strangers: Don’t call me mom

It started shortly after I had my first child.
I was leaving the building on the Upper West Side where we lived at the time and the doorman said have a nice day, mom.
This man was approximately my age, so I was definitively not his mom. I was very new to being anyones mom, actually, and hearing that was jarring.
To be fair, Ive been called variations of mother well before I had children. Ive had hey mami shouted at me from many a car window and more than one fine gentleman has asked me whats up, ma? as a type of mating call.
But being referred to as mom in the most non-sexualized way imaginable well, that was new.

The real issue, though, is the modern-day position of being mom.
When strangers start referring to you as mom, its clear that motherhood has become an all-encompassing identity as never before.

I'm a Jewish conservative from NY. I was the founder of the Columbia College Conservative Club http://www.columbia.edu/cu/conservative. I served as its president from 1999-2001. For alumni affairs, go to http://www.columbiacons.org/ Fellow Lion (and prospective member) here to tell you that both your links are broken. Do these groups still exist?

I’ve never had this happen to me and I’m a mama of many.
I can’t believe they publish crap articles like this.
What I get is, “Are they all yours?”
Last time I was asked that, I said, “No, I rounded up all of the neighborhood kids. It’s more fun that way.”

Let’s change your title, since “mom” is offensive.
“Moron” has a nice ring to it.

Sadly, they are morbund.
The current generations of students are almost completely brainwashed. They are conformist leftists who need trigger warnings and proclaiming oneself a conservative is all but unthinkable, not least because it can damage ones financial future.
