It turns out that one of the Grand Old Partys biggestand least discussedchallenges going into 2016 is lying in plain sight, written right into the partys own nickname. The Republican Party voter is oldand getting older, and as the adage goes, there are two certainties in life: Death and taxes. Right now, both are enemies of the GOP and they might want to worry more about the former than the latter.
Theres been much written about how millennials are becoming a reliable voting bloc for Democrats, but theres been much less attention paid to one of the biggest get-out-the-vote challenges for the Republican Party heading into the next presidential election: Hundreds of thousands of their traditional core supporters wont be able to turn out to vote at all.
The partys core is dying off by the day.
Here is the methodology, using one age group as an example: According to exit polls, 5,488,091 voters aged 60 to 64 years old supported Romney in 2012. The mortality rate for that age group is 1,047.3 deaths per 100,000, which means that 57,475 of those voters died by the end of 2013. Multiply that number by four, and you get 229,900 Romney voters aged 60-to-64 who will be deceased by Election Day 2016. Doing the same calculation across the range of demographic slices pulled from exit polls and census numbers allows one to calculate the total voter deaths. Its a rough calculation, to be sure, and there are perhaps ways to move the numbers a few thousand this way or that, but by and large, this methodology at least establishes the rough scale of the problem for the Republicansa problem measured in the mid-hundreds of thousands of lost voters by November 2016.

Finally, it forgets that the GOP has more Asian-Americans as governors
Death never stopped Democrats from voting.
I read the same screed in 1974 after the trumped up Watergate nonsense. Phony screed then, phony screed now; wishful thinking on the part of a “journalist”.

Gosh, this guy is the biggest moron ever. I wonder if he actually believes the drivel coming out of his mouth (read anus), or if it is just pandering to some Salon readers.
Funny that the entire midwest is all red (with barely any exception), and the only reason democrats win is because of a few states with way way way too many electorate votes. If those key states had half as many electorate votes democrats would never, ever win a national election EVER.
Just change the electorate in those states. Bingo banga bonga.
So congratulations guy. You certainly get it. Because Republicans and Democrats never existed before your generation. Yep, no one will ever vote GOP soon when all those old folk die off! (Note: The author seems to WANT that to happen)
Sheesh, this guy must be worried about something. Like, how democrats are going to get creamed next year. Nearly everybody everywhere is fed up with the lying, cronyism, and elitism out of our politicians. Think we are going to see a breath of fresh air.
What a bitter loser, in conclusion.
They also don’t factor in Conservatives, Christians, have more large families than the abortion class do.
Apparently, they also don’t consider that anyone will wise up with age. Everyone ages.
WHITE VOTE IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS
2012: 72% of electorate, Romney 59, Obama 39
2008: 74% of electorate, McCain 55, Obama 43
2004: 77% of electorate, Bush 58, Kerry 41
2000: 81% of electorate, Bush 55, Gore 42
1996: 83% of electorate, Dole 46, Clinton 44 (Perot 9)
1992: 87% of electorate, Bush 41, Clinton 39 (Perot 21)
1988: 85% of electorate, Bush 60, Dukakis 40
1984: 86% of electorate, Reagan 66, Mondale 34
1980: 88% of electorate, Reagan 56, Carter 36 (Anderson 8)
1976: 89% of electorate, Ford 52, Carter 48
And so one of the dems leading new faces just told us the radical moslem extremists just need infrastructure to be stopped. Delusional is a good discription of democrats.
At least I’ll die of old age...
The Liberal base has it’s own problems...
324,000 U.S. Blacks Killed by Blacks In Only 35 Years (http://americanfreepress.net/?p=21594#sthash.YgNZZqDg.dpuf)
Of the 6,309 black homicide victims in the United States, 5,452 were male, 854 were female, and 3 were of unknown gender.
The homicide rate for black male victims was 31.67 per 100,000. In comparison, the overall homicide rate for male victims was 7.13 per 100,000. For white male victims, the homicide rate was 3.85 per 100,000.
The homicide rate for black female victims was 4.54 per 100,000. In comparison, the overall homicide rate for female victims was 1.81 per 100,000. For white female victims, the homicide rate was 1.45 per 100,000.
Four hundred eighty-seven black homicide victims (8 percent) were less than 18 years old and 100 victims (2 percent) were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 30 years old.
For homicides in which the victim to offender relationship could be identified, 73 percent of black victims (2,138 out of 2,928) were murdered by someone they knew. Seven hundred ninety victims were killed by strangers.
For homicides in which the circumstances could be identified, 70 percent (2,540 out of 3,652) were not related to the commission of any other felony. Of these, 58 percent (1,475 homicides) involved arguments between the victim and the offender.
GOP opponents have been (wishfully) predicting the extinction of the Republican party since its founding in 1854. I’ll believe it when I see it.
The writer forgets, they kill their babies. We reproduce and pass on our beliefs to our children and our children’s children.
Nominate Jeb Bush for president in 2016 and we’ll see if the talk about the death of the GOP is delusional.
The GOP very badly needs to support American jobs.
This will grow the party. American jobs.
That is the critical part. That is also the very simple solution.
But don't play the "Jobs Bill" stupidity. CUT GOVERNMENT SPENDING, CUT TAXES. Those two items will create jobs, increase wealth, and solidify the country, and as a by-product, save the stupid party from itself.
I disagree completely.
We have been offshoring jobs now for over one entire generation, we have now build up Communist China to be a larger exporter than America.
At what point do we say “enough”?
Bring back jobs to America.
I just came from the Georgia State Cnnvention, and there were a LOT of younger people, particularly women. For one thing, Stop Common Core gets the moms activated.
A much greater % of members were Latino or Black compared to Republican gatherings up north. The Revolution eats its own, there must be a decent party worth joining to catch the disaffected with more than half their wits about them.
of course Grandma Clinton will surely attract young voters to her ticket. yeah, right!!!!!
This meme has been gaining legs among the left over the last week or so.
I think they are trying to give their base some “hope” that they can win in 2016.
When the election is over and they look at the demographics of who voted for the GOP nominee, they will go into depression, then rationalization. We will see the “angry white vote” theme again. We will see “the DNC did not its message out” theme.
This is pabulum for the liberal base of babies.
This article is pure fantasy...oh well...
So... 40 years ago, the Republican party was the go-to party for the youth?
Dumb writer. Dumb writing.
