What a message to send.
Im sure all those who died and are still imprisoned by the Revoluzione will be glad to see Raul attend.

The answer, I believe, can be found in Pope Francis obvious marxist leanings... There is no doubt that this Pope has some socialist views.
But it has always been the mission of the Christian leaders to give special attention to those that need it the most. Where it will do the most good.

President Raul Castro... perhaps to return to the Catholic Church
So for the last 50 years, you and your brother banned religion for an entire country, but now that the Grim Reaper is tapping you on the shoulder, you want a mulligan?
Sorry Charlie ...

Let me guess... Pope Frank and Che Guevara were schoolmates in Argentina, thus the sudden, renewed kinship between il Papa and el Presidente.

why, then, would Raul consider rejoining the Catholic Church? The answer, I believe, can be found in Pope Francis obvious marxist leanings... LOL blog pimping.

The Castro dictatorship may be in its latter days, but the police state is still strong. The pope has leftish leanings, no doubt about it. If Castro wants to suck up to him, and in return liberalizes the atmosphere for people of faith in Cuba, maybe there is the potential for something good to happen here. After all, there is nothing the pope can do to make things any worse down there. Seems to me that Cuban Catholics have nothing to lose and possibly much to gain.

Pope Francis obvious marxist leanings. No economic system even if it is marxist is capable of saving mankind. But capitalism is the economic system most compatible with God's Word and this fallen world.

Karl Marx HATED religion.
He called it the opiate of the masses.
I’m sure he’d get quite the kick out of the Communist Pope today. :)

Does seem like he thinks he can treat Rome as a useful idiot, AND that Rome is going along with it.
That is sad for Christendom of whatever denomination. When the brothers suffer, all suffer.

Well let’s consider the possibilities:
A) Raul has changed his views to move closer to Catholicism
B) Catholicism has changed to move closer to Raul’s views
C) They both moved closer together and are meeting somewhere in the middle
D) Raul is lying and playing some kind of con game
Option D seems most likely to me, knowing what I know about Castro and the Catholic church.
