Michelle Obama gave an impassioned and personal commencement speech Saturday on the trials she's faced as the first African-American first lady of the United States, saying she was held to a different standard than other candidates' wives during the 2008 campaign because of her race.
Speaking at Tuskegee University in Alabama, Obama told the audience that when her husband was running for office in 2008, she faced questions which she said were not typical for other candidates' wives.
"As potentially the first African-American first lady, I was also the focus of another set of questions and speculations, conversations sometimes rooted in the fears and misperceptions of others," she told the class of 2015. "Was I too loud or too emasculating? Or was I too soft? Too much of a mom and not enough of a career woman?"

"Back in those days, I had a lot of sleepless nights worrying what people thought of me," she recalled. Obama added that she let the criticism get to the point where she would wonder if she was hurting her husband's chances of becoming President, while also fearing what her daughters would think.
The first lady said eventually the only thing she could do to prevent others from defining her was to "ignore all of the noise."

You bet there was a double-standard...our standards were lowered to the bottomless pits of hell for these corrupt megalomaniac tyrants. No criticism was allowed or tolerated.
I pity the parents and kids at the commencement having to sit through 29 flavor of “woe is me, you don’t know how hard I’ve had it” instead of hearing anything uplifting about their futures.
And that standard was that she and her incompetent, inexperienced, lying, socialist, affirmative action mental light weight husband were ushered into the White House on a red carpet by an adoring lame stream media that never vetted them.
Does the whining ever stop?
She’s right: we hold her to a lower standard. I don’t expect her to be as neat, refined, and ladylike as Laura Bush. As long as Michell has a bra on and isn’t using the F-word in public, I breathe a sigh of relief.
Oh, SNAP!
She apparently doesn’t understand that she had it EASIER than other candidate wives. Barack Obama is our first affirmative action president. I’m absolutely certain he would have never been elected had his skin been a different color.
And the most oppressive of all, she can’t even open the White House windows. The horror! What a miserable butch.
Well, she's been held to a different standard than the rest of us ever since Obama took office - forcing school kids to eat crap while she dines on 5-star cuisine, taking a couple of dozen expensive "vacations" a year, combined with the privilege of taking her cronies and extended family on numerous world-wide junkets at taxpayer expense.
She gets treated like Marie Antoinette got treated before losing her head. Except Michelle won't get beheaded, she and Obie will "retire" to a life of million dollar speeches and taxpayer protection for life.
She and her husband have had an absolute cakewalk by virtue of their skin color. Candidate Obama would have been laughed out of the presidential election had his skin been white.
Of course - every decision in Michelle’s life was due to race. How could it be due to any thing else? Her school grades came down to race, her dating choices - race, where she bought her clothes - race, where she ate - race. FLOTUS - race, bitch - race.
I am so very tired of her endless whining and complaining.
We can't get these rodeo clowns out of the white house soon enough.
Its tough bein’ a ho from da hood !
The standards for political discourse in this country have been set by the left. The left ran all these stories and criticisms.
When will the left stop it’s War on Women?
Wait one minute, everyone knows perfectly well that all the scrutiny was about your confusing gender, not your race!
Maybe it’s the boob belt...
For some reason the “Lowered Expectation” skits from MADTV seem to speak to what America did in electing Lord Foul and his trained.........well you know.
