They live in horrible conditions. I don’t think the kids need to be taken away but they do need help. The kids are not homeschooled but they are allowed to learn what they want which includes hanging around talking. If they were homeschooled, I would be sticking up for this family but still request they get help from those already off the grid but are doing it right. They just need some assistance on how to raise children that is all. There is no manual on how to raise kids.

The article in
The Mail (post 4) differs markedly from the article quoted above.
The Mail article says that on the family's Facebook page, it claims that the whole family, all 12, sleep on a large bench in one of the tents. Ma is preggers with child # 11. The fact that they were 'rollin' in the hay', in front of their kids is a major cause for concern.
Kentucky can get cold in the winter. How do they keep the kids, especially the toddlers, warm in tents?
While it seems the state acted very heavy handedly, it seems intervention may have been warranted.

Unschooling has been around for a long time. It is a term that does not really mean what it says. I was never attracted to it in that I preferred a curriculum. But those that follow that plan do teach all the subjects. They just do it in deep context with real life. I understand the concept. It was not for me. Some of their results have been very impressive.

Today it is for home schooling, tomorrow it will be for not taking the common core tests, the next day sending your kids to private school, the day after that for simply being in the wrong political party.

I read different accounts. I trust CPS as far as I can throw them. This family (dad especially) has raised alarm bells as well.
I don't know what the right decision is, but removing kids from a family should be in a last resort only.

If the family is “off the grid”, how did they have a Facebook page?

The children look happy, healthy and clean in the picture.

Sue the Government...they (Government) need to be sued. Class action lawsuit. Who’ll be next to have their kids taken?

Nice happy family while it lasted. Government bootlickers know best.

I looked at their living conditions and the children should not have to live in that terribly unhealthy trash pile. Home schooling isn't the problem, disease is. There is no way to heat that open space, winter will be brutal and every inch is unsanitary. One can take a staged picture of them, which takes one second, then they will go back to dirt and bacteria.
The kids can say they are happy but they don't know any existence but that. They don't understand they can easily get a disease and die, most likely of pneumonia or infected wounds.
Living independently doesn't mean living in squalor.

Prayers for the Naugler family including all the children.
Is there a fund for their defense? This is outrageous with no previous visits from the Child Protective Service or whatever it is.

Does anyone else find it a bit odd that they are “living off the grid”, but do not seem to have a garden?

Let me guess: her assailant hasn’t served so much as one day of prison since then.
