A couple in Florida attracted quite a bit of attention last summer, when a video of them having the often-cliched “sex on the beach” made its way to YouTube for all to see.
A description of the explicit video was provided by WFLA:
The couple didn’t hold back.
Bold and brazen with their bodies, they were grinding in full view. Bradenton Beach Police were called, and the couple was eventually arrested.
The indecent encounter was captured by a sunbathing great-grandmother on her iPhone. There are claims even a three-year-old saw the couple.
On Monday, the couple appeared before a judge. TIME reports:
Jose Caballero, 40, and Elissa Alvarez, 20, were convicted of two counts each of lewd and lascivious behavior for having sex on Bradenton Beach in 2014. The jury took only 15 minutes to reach a verdict.
As part of their sentence, the pair faces up to 15 years in prison each. Attorney for the couple Ronald Kurpiers told TIME:
“’It’s a horrifically harsh potential penalty for what they’re alleged to have done and that’s really the rub here,’ he said.”

Arresting officer Eric Hill from Bradenton Beach commented:
“This isn’t an after-hours disco that people can use for a garbage can. This is the root of family.”
Resident Ray Schmitz agrees:
“It’s ridiculous, it shouldn’t happen, there’s a time and place for everything, not for on the beach. I’m proud of our law enforcement for stopping this!”
While a date for sentencing has yet to be determined, the couple must also become registered sex offenders.

I lived right at the beach on Anna Maria. There was “action” there, but at night.
Geez, lighten up. No one is “defending the perverts”. We’re just discussing the proportionality of prison sentences. 15 years for sex on a public beach is just nuts. And as a taxpayer, I am offended by the idea of paying to keep these two idiots on the public dole for that long.
Yes, they should be punished. A heavy fine. Maybe 1000 hours wearing striped overalls and picking up garbage on the highways. But your Talibanesque approval of a 15 year prison sentence is just goofy. I’m sure you secretly favor stoning, but aren’t ready yet to proclaim it in polite society.

Someone on here likely has already said this, but if they were a gay couple the authorities would not dare to press these charges.
I found that it was a lock without anything else, it is mystifying.
On dates and with romantic efforts that is one thing, but when you notice that it works with them all, regardless of how trivial or new the prior relationship, then you see that the beach has some magical power over them.
I would have to see the full video before I could make a guilty/not guilty determination! ;-)

That would have been nice to know 40 years ago.
You should have seen what it was like to live on the boardwalk, during tourist season, when you could just pick them out and say that is my apartment over there, want to walk over with me so that I can grab another beer? Several times a day, everyday, for months.
It seems that young women have secret lives, and things that happen on vacation with locals, don’t get counted.
I can see putting them in jail, maybe, depending on their past records, current situations and level of remorse, but for 15 years, that’s absurd.
