Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee threw the first punches on Tuesday against other Republican presidential candidates, ending a brief spring of comity among conservatives who all want the chance to oppose Hillary Clinton in the 2016 general election.
Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister, elbowed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush without naming them and threw in a shot at Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton for good measure.
Less than 90 minutes after Cruz issued a welcoming message of respect, 'Huck' lashed out at him for a plan to put his family on Affordable Care Act-sanctioned medical insurance after years of railing against the Obamacare plan.
'Instead of helping families find affordable health care, we created a monster that forces us to buy coverage we don't want, don't need, and can't afford,' Huckabee told a crowd gathered in his hometown of Hope, Arkansas. 'And imagine members of Congress boasting they will fight to repeal Obamacare and then turning around and signing up for it!'
Cruz had extended a different kind of gesture earlier in the morning, naming all three Republicans who officially threw their hats into the ring in a stretch of just 28 hours
