..liberating US troops took revenge by executing dozens of German guards
American soldiers executed dozens of German guards at the Dachau WWII concentration camp after screaming: 'Let's get those Nazi dogs!'
The US troops opened fire on 50 members of the SS and the Wehrmacht with a machine gun after lining them up and saying: 'Take no prisoners!'
One commander shot dead four other Germans and became so hysterical that his own colonel had to hit him with the butt of his gun to stop him battering a fifth.
According to a new book, the Americans took revenge because they were so outraged at what they saw when they liberated Dachau, which was home to 32,000 prisoners kept in horrific conditions.
But what they did themselves on April 29, 1945 became one of the most controversial episodes in the US involvement in WWII. Historians have since concluded that it was probably a war crime, though at the time the charges were dismissed by General George Patton who told the accused they could go home - with their honor intact.
Over the weekend dignitaries from around the world including German chancellor Angela Merkel assembled in Dachau to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the liberation
But little was made of the episode which features heavily in 'Hitler's Last Day' by Jonathan Mayo and Emma Craigie, which strings together the events that marked the end of WWII.
The book explains that on April 29 1945, a Sunday afternoon, the the 45th Infantry Division liberated the camp whilst on its way to the city of Munich, which was 12 miles to the south.
But before they even got into the main barracks, 'Hitler's Last Day' reveals that they were left shocked and profoundly disturbed by what they saw.

I’m feeling guilty, I must confess. Not.
....AND THE SAME ANGER NEEDS TO LET LOSE ON ISIS, OR WHAT EVER ELSE IT IS CALLED. THE MODERN DAY NAZI DOGS
Too bad the Russian Gulags couldn’t have been liberated and the commie apparatchiks get what they deserved.
My dad was with Patton’s army at that point in the war. He was in the artillery, but I recall him mentioning members of the SS being killed if they were at the camps.
We sit quietly while ISIS does the same today.
A story planted and enouraged by the Rookies.
Amen. Just another attempt to cast aspersions on the WW II guys like they have the Vietnam and ME boys. They (99%) are all heroes.
It’s just as well that the Allies killed some of the guards because many of these scum returned to normal life after the war and lived without a care in the world. Simon Wiesenthal and the Mossad got some of those but not nearly all.
War crime my ass. They should have been given medals for service to humanity.
“Its just as well that the Allies killed some of the guards because many of these scum returned to normal life after the war and lived without a care in the world.”
Some did. But, many SS died in Indo-China....
They wasted ammo when they should have found baseball bats and gone full Bear Jew on those Nazi’s a**es.
And literally thousands in So. America. Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil.
1. There are no Pattons left. Those same troops would be in prison now.
2. Everything done out there is videotaped and just waiting for CNN coverage.
They could have just handed-out some guns to the prisoners, and let them take care of it. Problem solved.
Our next door neighbor has a diabetic event and fell into a mud puddle.
My sister happen to be home at the time and pull him out of the puddle saving his life.
When emergency personal came to assist, one of the state police who also responded to the call came up to my dad (they knew each other) and told him, "You know your neighbor was a member of the SS, serving at one of the concentration camps.
The post ww2 generation really does not understand that evil must be defeated, not contained. This is why we have 10 year wars that accomplish nothing.
