~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Beale Air Force Base, California Beale AFB is the home of the 9th Reconnaissance Wing and located outside of Linda, about 10 miles east of the towns of Marysville and Yuba City and about 40 miles north of Sacramento. Beale is a large base in terms of land and has five gates providing access on all sides of the base. Visitors enter the base through a main gate that local merchants, individuals and the Beale Military Liaison Committee donated $100,000 to construct. The base is home for approximately 4,000 military personnel. The 9th Reconnaissance Wing is responsible for providing national and theater command authorities with timely, reliable, high-quality, high-altitude reconnaissance products. To accomplish this mission, the wing is equipped with the nation's fleet of U-2, RQ-4 and MC-12 reconnaissance aircraft and associated support equipment. The wing also maintains a high state of readiness in its expeditionary combat support forces for potential deployment in response to theater contingencies. The 9th Reconnaissance Wing is composed of more than 4,500 personnel in four groups at Beale, one group at Grand Forks AFB, ND, and multiple overseas operating locations. In the spring of 2011, the Air Force selected the 9th Reconnaissance Wing to become the parent wing for the MC-12W Project Liberty program. In short order, the 9 RW completed the MC-12 program transfer to Beale AFB and became the permanent home for MC-12W aircraft capable of full motion video (FMV), communications intelligence (COMINT), and signals intelligence (SIGINT). On 26 August 2011, the 489th Reconnaissance Squadron activated at Beale AFB and assumed the Formal Training Unit (FTU) mission to produce combat ready MC-12W aircrew for immediate deployment in support of combatant commanders. Heart Of Joy May 5, 2015
These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.
John 15:11
While waiting in the gate area of Singapores Changi Airport to board my flight, I noticed a young familymom, dad, and son. The area was crowded, and they were looking for a place to sit. Suddenly, the little boy began loudly singing Joy to the World. He was about 6 years old, so I was pretty impressed that he knew all the words.
What captured my attention even more was the look on the boys facehis beaming smile matched the words he was singing as he proclaimed to everyone at the gate the joy of the Christ who has come.
This joy is not limited to exuberant children nor should it be confined to the Christmas season. The overflowing joy of knowing Christs presence in our lives was one of the themes of Jesus final teaching with His disciples the night before He died on the cross. He told them of His extravagant love for themthat He loved them as the Father loved Him (John 15:9). After sharing what this eternal relationship looks like, Jesus said, These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full (v.11).
What a promise! Through Jesus Christ our hearts can be filled with joyreal joy!
Lord, You have chosen me and redeemed me, crowned me with love and compassion. I can do nothing less than overflow with joy at Your great love for me, for those I love, and for the world.
In every season of life we can know joy in Christ.
: Jesus often spoke in picturesque language to help people understand what He was saying. In todays passage, He explains the relationship between Himself and His followers by talking about a vine. The key word in this passage is abide, which is used 10 times. We stay connected to (abide in) Him (the vine) by the power of the Holy Spirit, through the reading of His Word, and through prayer. In this way (the branches) remain in fellowship with Him and know true joy.
