Former Baltimore mayor Martin O'Malley said that if he runs for president, he'll launch his campaign in Baltimore:
"We haven't had an agenda for America's cities probably since Jimmy Carter ... We have left cities to fend for themselves. ... But look, the structural problems that we have in our economy, the way we ship jobs and profits abroad, the way we failed to invest in our infrastructure and failed to invest in American cities, we are creating the conditions. Please, Speaker Boehner and his crocodile tears about the $130 million, that is a spit in the bucket compared to what we need to do as a nation to rebuild our country. And America's cities are the heart of our country. We need an agenda for American cities. We need to stop ignoring especially people of color and act like they are disposable citizens in this nation. That's not how our economy is supposed to work, it's not how or our country works," an impassioned O'Malley said.
NBC host Chuck Todd asked, "Do you think you can run on your record as mayor of Baltimore and governor of Maryland, given all this? You are getting a lot of scrutiny now. Do you think this is a positive thing voters will look at and say Martin O'Malley ought to be president?"
"I did not dedicate my life to make Baltimore safer and more just place because it was easy. And I am more inclined and deeply motivated to address what's wrong with our country and what needs to be healed and what needs to be fixed. This should be a wake-up call. What's happened in Baltimore should be a wake-up call for the entire country. The protests that also happened in New York, Philadelphia, and other cities--we have deep problems as a country. And we need deeper understanding if we are going to give our children a better future," said O'Malley.
Reminds me of Kucinich running on the greatness of Cleveland.
Well, there’s O’Malley, Clinton and Sanders. Each is the most opposite of one of the above three adjectives :)
But i can see some of them applying to more than one.
1939
lol you racisss, or misogynist, or something :)
lol :D
In 1967 Maryland had a real Governor named Agnew. He stopped the damn riots, looting, and burning in Baltimore with the NG plus he called LBJ who sent in Army active duty troops.
LOL! He just got heckled there the other day.
What Baltimore needs is more young, dynamic people who speak spanish/s
This is good for republicans. The dem candidates will trip over each other pandering to blacks, each trying to outdo the other—to the point of absurdity. That will alienate lots of non black voters.
I’m glad Detroit is shaping up. It is difficult if not impossible to wrest control of cities from democrats. The very structure of a city creates dependency on government, which is the lifeblood of the democrat party.
Believe it or not, in the last governor’s election here in Massachusetts most of the state was red but for the western part (all blue, but sparsely populated) and the cities. Most towns voted Republican.
The last Republican Mayor of Baltimore was Theodore Mckeldin he served from 1963 to 1967.
Nancy Pelosi’s brother Thomas L.J. D’Alesandro III served from 1967 to 1971 Democrat.
Thomas L.J. D’Alesandro and his father Thomas L.J. D’Alesandro Jr 1947 to 1959 was the culture of corruption in Baltimore.
I was born and rasied in this shity of Baltimore.
Once was a nice place to live in certain areas in Baltimore.
70 years ago places like North Ave , Howard street was the ritzy areas of town, now shiet holes..
Most of Baltimore now is shiet holes, matter of fact all of Baltimore is a shiet hole, except a few pockets of nice neiborhoods up north along Charles Street near Norterdame collage, Johns Hopkins, University Blvd, Roland ave.
Places like Hamilton, Highlintown, Overly, Fullerton, Towson east, Parkville, were really nice places to live about 30 - 40 years ago
Detroit police Chief James Craig was on CNN this morning. I got the impression that they were hoping that he would give them an angry black man response but he’s a lot closer in thinking to David Clarke than Al Sharpton.
He thinks the prosecutor was too quick to charge and charging all 6 was a mistake. Says he agrees with the broken windows theory of crime prevention and that Detroiters have demanded that they keep the teenagers off the street at night. He’s also pushing to create a welcoming environment for business by controlling crime.
RUSH: Why would they stop mentioning him as the former governor of Maryland?
CALLER: Well, you know, I mean, all of this chaos and tumult going on in Baltimore, Maryland. Why would they want to associate their backup with it?
RUSH: Oh, easy. I can give you a great reason. The state goes to hell when he leaves and elects a governor. That's the way they'll play it, and then he's already leaving wherever he was. He's coming back from Ireland. He's coming back to Maryland, to Baltimore, in an emergency to solve the problem, because the existing Republican governor is such an incompetent boob is how this is gonna play out. O'Malley's gonna come back as a savior.
Meanwhile, Hillary is tweeting out rainbow-colored logo bumper stickers for the gay community while this is going on. Hillary is so far out of touch on this, it's just incredible. O'Malley is being set up here as the guy on the white horse -- no pun intended -- to come in here and save the day because this incompetent boob Republican governor screwed everything up. He has screwed everything up. That's what's being set up here, and the forces in the media that are not happy with Hillary will be glad to play this up.
Keep a sharp eye on O'Malley. You know, O'Malley's one of these dark horse-type candidates. And Jim Webb, too. Keep an eye on these two. Jim Webb. Do not doubt me on this. He's a former secretary of the Navy, big Democrat, reasonable looking Democrat, clean and articulate like Obama was. Don't... It's way early here. Do not discount either of these guys, but particularly O'Malley. O'Malley was in Ireland when all this began. He can easily say, "My God, I feel bad. I should have stayed governor. This wouldn't have happened."
He gets the opportunity to portray everybody as incompetent -- including his successor, a Republican -- and then to fly into town and solve a thing. The question... (interruption) He doesn't have to solve it. He doesn't have to, 'cause that's the point. It isn't gonna be solved. It hadn't been solved since the Watts riots. It hasn't been solved ever. This is never gonna get solved. As long as the black population keeps voting Democrat, this is never gonna end. It isn't gonna get solved. That's not the point.
We're not into reality here; we're into image.
Our cities are the buttholes of our nations. Tourists from all over the world are told which areas to NEVER STEP FOOT IN and it’s been this way for decades. They are not the heart of our nation.
Why? Because of desperate people there who are uncivilized and don’t treat others as fellows. They act tribally and primitively. Why do they do this? Because they were not raised properly. Neither were their parents or grandparents. None of them waited to procreate until a parent had a good enough job to support them. Their bad decisions were rewarded with free money.
If you choose to watch tv and take drugs, you and your children should suffer. I know I and mine would, as we don’t use government assistance no matter how bad it gets. But That is not true in our cities.
When immigrants come to our cities, they work hard and force their children to, as well, and they leave the inner city. They help their fellows and they control their procreation. They learn the language and make their way up the ladder.
I think O’Malley will be the nominee. Hillary believes the Democratic voters are still enamored with the “Hillary Mystique” from the 1990s, and thinks that will carry her to the nomination. The 18 -34 year olds are too young to remember that version of Hillary, and see her as a rich old white woman with credibility issues. Many of those over 35 remember the countless scandals surrounding the Clintons, and have no appetite to relive that era. Bernie Sanders is viewed as too old and considered to be nothing more than a fringe candidate. The same is true of Lincoln Chafee. Elizabeth Warren will generate some buzz, and may end up as O’Malley’s running mate. O’Malley will appeal to the lunatic left, and and comes across as youthful enough for the younger voters, especially if you put him on the same debate stage with Hillary, Sanders, Chafee, and Warren.
Yawn
I think they’ve had one Republican mayor since 1920. Good luck O’Malley in blaming this epic failure of liberalism on anyone else.
