More specifically, since the Senate must approve of federal voting laws, corrupt, citizen-elected senators have once again kicked their respective states in the teeth by not allowing them to verify citizenship before allowing them to vote.
In fact, consider that the Supreme Court had clarified in Minor v. Happersett that citizenship doesn’t automatically confer the right to vote.

The right of suffrage was not necessarily one of the privileges or immunities of citizenship [emphasis added] before the adoption of the Fourteenth Amendment, and that amendment does not add to these privileges and immunities. It simply furnishes additional guaranty for the protection of such as the citizen already had.” —Minor v. Happersett, 1874.
Note that Thomas Jefferson had warned about problems with the Constitution-ignoring Senate and Oval Office.
