Longtime Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders will jump into the 2016 fray tomorrow, presenting the first official challenge to Hillary Clinton from her left. Liberal activists have been quite anxious for such a challenger, though the one they wanted was a bit younger and female. A self-described socialist in the style of the European democratic socialists, Sanders will bring fresh, innovative ideas to the table, like: Corporations are bad and have too much influence on our giant, ineffective, unaccountable government, so let’s make government bigger to fix the problem and also take a lot more money from the rich. They’re the worst. (And, more hot Koch Brother talk!)
Here’s the news fromwhere else? Vermont Public Radio:
VPR News has learned from several sources that Independent U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders will announce his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination on Thursday.
Sanders will release a short statement on that day and then hold a major campaign kickoff in Vermont in several weeks.
Sanders’ entry into the Democratic race ensures that Hillary Clinton will face a challenge to win the support of the liberal wing of the party.
Sanders’ basic message will be that the middle class in America has been decimated in the past two decades while wealthy people and corporations have flourished.
His opposition to a proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal (T.P.P.) shows how he plans to frame this key issue of his campaign.
He will run as a Democrat, thereby getting himself a ticket to the debate stage. He’ll announce tomorrow and hold a rally…next month. Because this thing is a rocket ship, people!
One ally who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss Sanderss timetable said the 73-year-old senator is expected to make his intentions known this week and hold a rally in Vermont next month. He plans to run as a Democrat, according to his associates.
Update: Room for Berniementum?
Small sample, but… https://t.co/OE8mh4MzRW

Update: At least Hillary can fall back on her ever-present charm and transparency:
Go Bernie!
When can I get a bumper sticker?
Money quote, "Sanders will bring fresh, innovative ideas to the table, like: Corporations are bad and have too much influence on our giant, ineffective, unaccountable government, so lets make government bigger to fix the problem and also take a lot more money from the rich."
Here is hoping that after he loses to Hillary in the primaries, he continues to run as an independent, sucking off the die-hard socialist vote (white Democrats), effectively taking 10% of the general election vote from Hillary, and also creating mega fratricide among the Leftist base.
Now if the GOP would make a serious play for the lunch pail toting crowd, that could be a real game changer. But it would also risk alienating the Kool-Aid drinking free trade and open borders check writing crowd.
Younger than dirt. Younger than The Universe. Maybe the idea is to make Hillary look youthful in comparison.
True. I think it is hilarious. Hillary will never get the Democratic nomination ever. She wants it so badly too and I think that is the problem. She is in the same boat as Santorum and some others as far as really really wanting to be President. I always thought if she did get the nomination then we are in trouble because they will vote her in but she is horrible during primary which is a good thing for us.
Democrat, communist. Both in the same bag.
The one man honest enough to admit he’s a Socialist.
Oh, didn’t realize he was running as a dem.
Ah,Bernie the Bolshevik!
He doesn’t shy away from admitting he’s a socialist but he usually calls himself a “progressive”.
I’m expecting a “Brown Obama”, probably Julian Castro, to run and maybe upend Hillary.
Bernie running for the nomination will keep the Democrat voters out of the Republican primaries.
I disagree. Hillary is unlikable and a crook. The GOP better not fall asleep on this. Sanders is honest (even though he is a socialist) and is a likable grandfatherly figure.
This commie was elected Mayor of Burlington, VT back in the day by TEN VOTES. If eleven others had gotten off of their fat ass*s and voted for his opponent, it MAY have derailed his political career right at the start. Thanks, Vermont.
He may be honest but do you really think that America is ready for a Democratic Socialist? I just think they would hold their nose to vote for first woman over a 73 year old guy. Who knows though. Thank God we have history on our side. IT would be a historic first (since 40’s) that a Democrat won 3 elections in a row.
FREE BEER!..........TOMORROW...............
Bill Bennett was right. Not kicking Bill Clinton out post the Monica mess from within the party would be a mess of pottage, they sold their soul. Along the way, they have purged by nudging IMHO, Zell Miller, The Casey types, Lieberman, John Breaux and the likes of a Bob Kerry.
They are now populated by CIC's Communist in Costumes masquerading as Democrats, and they are aging and have no new ideas or faces, in so many ways they are really old....
Sucks to be them. If they didn't open the flood gates, give away everything, and own the press and education we'd have a fighting chance...
Bernie = H. Ross
In the opposite direction
” Not an official democrat (dont know why he wont join, ego? Hes not even the most left-wing member of Congress) “
He isn’t even close.
