A San Diego teenager was one of the first to jump in and help a couple trapped and in shock following in a hit-and-run crash in Loma Portal Saturday.
“It hurt my heart because they were helpless and didn’t know what to do," said 18-year-old Nida Wongsri.
Wongsri told NBC 7 she first spotted the couple's minivan near the intersection of Chatsworth Boulevard and Elliot Street Saturday night, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said.
The minivan crashed on its side and the couple inside - described by police as elderly - were hanging from their seatbelts.
Wongsri ran to the vehicle and, with another passerby, broke through the glass and popped the airbag. Firefighters arrived and were able to extract the couple by cutting the roof of the minivan. The driver had been recovering from a recent surgery and was in a lot of pain, police said.
Both the man and woman are expected to be okay, according to police.
The second driver in the crash fled the scene according to officials.
Wongsri was disheartened by the crime.
"I don't understand how people could be so, what if there is a child in there," she said. "No matter what your situation you're going through do the right thing. Stop. Do the right thing. You're making it worse by leaving."
Hopefully he doesn’t get sued for causing them to have even greater injuries.

it states that he popped the air bag. And waited for the fir personnel to extract the injured couple from the minivan. Do not think he will undergo any prosecution for any wrongdoing - assisted at an accident.
I thought he meant illegal aliens. I've noticed that over the last decade the number of hit and runs have skyrocketed - and yes, I believe it has to do a lot with the culture in Mexico. Probably due to the crooked police that they've experienced in the past, or something, but it seems like they flee whenever they hit someone (and it is not like they are in danger of getting deported from this 'Sanctuary State').
I was at sad memorial service for a young girl who got killed by a hit and run driver some 10-15 years ago. The driver fled to Mexico -- but to his credit, he returned a year later and took his punishment. He said his conscience would not let him get over doing what he had done - and he had just fled due to his natural instincts. He was OK. Maybe not a good driver, but a man with a conscience.
No excuse necessary. We all know mexi-crashes have skyrocketed.

To answer your question.
YES, it was most probably an ILLEGAL ALIEN WETBACK from south of the US/Mexico boarder.
Now that the question has been answered we shall move on with the posted responses.

Well I do know that my daughter (who was on her way to a company-sponsored outreach program for the poor ( read mostly black) in East Oakland, when she was hit broadside by a speeding black driver who stopped only briefly to inquire if she was alright before speeding off! Her car was totaled as a result of the impact. So yes, from my experience, hit run is a black crime!
