Facebook Is Not Letting the Story of the Vet Who Killed a Cat With a Bow and Arrow Go
Texas Monthly ^ | April 22, 2015 | Dan Solomon

By now, you’ve probably heard of Kristen Lindsey. She’s the veterinarian from Brenham who’s given more bad press to the state than Blue Bell after she posted a picture on Facebook of herself, smiling and holding an arrow with a dead cat on the end of it:

Every so often I have to run into city people on FR who think that the rules they live by apply out here. For all their chatter about not liking liberals they sure have no problems acting just like them and spouting off their ridiculous nonsense.

I grew up on a farm raising chickens from chicks, with cats, pets and feral, and have NEVER experienced or heard of such comments as cats killing mass numbers of chicks for fun. Do you have any evidence of such cat behavior?

The difference is the pet would have been returned to it’s owner, or merely walked home if not killed.

Right now she is facing charges, and perhaps loss of her license, evidently using the excuse it was on her property isn’t as solid as you think.

It is especially weak for a woman who wants to work as a veterinarian, and win community support.

This is a rural area, so deer overpopulation here does not happen-but if it did, we would just get extra doe tags with that year’s hunting license-much cheaper-and better tasting-than a bill for deer birth control.

The neuter and release program is run by a private animal welfare society and funded entirely by donations-I donate, as does just about everybody I know. The area vets who work with the welfare society volunteer to do a certain number of spay/neuter procedures each month-it brings them a lot of business because people know they really care about animals. If you adopt a shelter cat, you pay around 75 bucks for the spay/neuter, shots and the microchip ID-if you take a non-shelter cat to any vet, that stuff will cost you around $300.00.

The animal welfare people will lend you have-a-heart traps to collect feral cats that are not neutered/spayed-all you have to do is put cat food into the trap, check it in the morning and they will pick up the cat(s) early and get them fixed at the vet’s. It is free-costs a phone call and a trip of maybe 10 miles to pick up the traps.

She is just a product of the Facebook times where those who do stupid things and hurtful things think they’ll find many who think they are powerful and funny.

It is not just a Facebook thing, but rather an Internet thing; because it happens around here too. Just look as some of the asinine and stupid comments people post around here, just to make it look like they are smart and "in the know."

I don’t “hate cats”, yet you continue to spout it as fact.

Of course you do. Just go back and read your post. You are having orgasms over it.

People busted your lies.

The big issue some may have missed is your belief in statism. You can't buy 2 traps for $39.99, but you can call out county services at taxpayer expense.

That is not a very conservative course of action.

Oh. That BIG ROUND 700,000 NUMBER you keep posting. Do you have a link? Large round numbers are the domain of liars and liberals.

This city vet was not facing down a feral cat in her yard, it appears to be Tiger the pet.

This veterinarian really stepped in it.

Here are a couple of places to buy modern traps.

If you have friends with a hog problem, let them know these things really work if you build the fence sturdy.

It is also very likely the initial shot did not kill the cat, so the cat was thrashing around thereby inflicting additional wounds on itself until it died. I find it extremely unlikely that a single arrow immediately dispatched the cat. Especially in the head area.

Sure, if you knew who the owner was. But it was neither tagged nor collared, and since it wasn’t mentioned (or I didn’t see it) I doubt it was chipped. The cat would have gone to animal services, done it’s time and then been put down either by gas or overdose.

That she could lose her license over this is ridiculous.

This was one cat. It was pretty nasty and not even my retired Marine husband was interested in reaching in there to grab it.

Our other cat problems are usually outside cats fighting with our barn cats.

Six years ago I used to have different feelings and my husband humored me. After a few times of spending days trying to capture one of these cats and drive it into the Park County Animal Shelter just so they could put the cat down (they will not adopt out feral cats) it just made sense to deal with the problem here.

Between gas and all each cat cost us about three hours and $100 to deal with to take it into town. Shooting them costs a bullet and I get to stay home with my kids.

I caught that too. If she had said raccoons, I would believe it. Coyotes too. They have destroyed entire turkey nests on our back acreage. Foxes can also be a pain in the backside, though I have watched toms take them on.

One of the houses that was converted to an office had people that would feed the ferals.

The "Crazy Cat Ladies" do the same thing at the small office building complex and at the Winn Dixie in the parking lot next to it where I walk my dogs during the day.

There used to be a big, wild rooster that lived somewhere around the office buildings, but it's gone now. I don't know if one of the many raptors got it or if maybe it was trapped. It definitely made a lot of noise, but it was lots of fun for my dogs to chase.

Same for the cats, but I liked the rooster better.

When I asked a few of the neighbors about the cats, they seem to like the feral cats better than the rats and other rodents, so apparently they're okay with letting the "CCL"s do their thing.

Small creatures like the cats and rabbits don't last long around here anyway. The hawks and owls seem to be the reigning champs for keeping their the numbers down.

Last January, when I was out walking my dogs fairly late one night, an owl landed on a street light across the street from where we were walking with a still screaming rabbit it had just caught. My dogs went absolutely crazy over that. No wonder there aren't many rabbits around here...or cats, for that matter.

The feral cats around our home come into our yard and poop and our dogs eat it, regardless of my telling them how disgusting that is and having to take them out in the hose to wash their mouths out so the house doesn’t smell like cat crap.

^^This!^^ My dogs act like they're after-dinner mints like you find at a restaurant cash register when you pay the check. I think I hate that smell more than anything I can think of.

Why bother the cat at all?

Much less go up to it to shoot with an arrow? Tiger would have just gone back to it’s owners, which would also have been the result if taken to the shelter.

This was quite a sweet little cat, and the vet is going to have a hard time finding work, regardless if she is charged or not, there is something not right with her.

Yes, it was a joke. I’m sure they think of it as a delicacy and would rather eat cat crap than the stupid expensive dog food we buy. What isn’t a joke is how they smell when they come back inside after finding their little snacks.

Funny you mention foxes! We get a lot of foxes and most of them avoid the house. A couple years back we had a vixen who came up to the door to eat some of the cat food and we ended up putting a dish out for her for the winter. I have pictures of her eating from my hand! After the winter was over we never saw her again.

I’ve never seen a raccoon up here. We had them all the time in California but never seen one around here. Some people around here hunt them but I’ve never seen one.

Sure, a lot of weirdos make that mistake, but it is good for the community that she is she did, and the fact that she did, and with such pride, and arrogance, is also part of this story.

She is “awesome”, too “awesome” to be fired.

I have a big hawk thats on my roof every morning. Messy but seeing it fly away is really cool. Scares my dog and he’s 80 pounds.
