BREAKING NEWS At least 71 people died after a powerful magnitude-7.9 earthquake shook Nepals capital and the densely populated Kathmandu Valley around noon Saturday, Nepal's Home Ministry says.
Sky News also reports that at least 50 people are trapped underneath rubble of the citys iconic Dharahara Tower, one of Kathmandus landmarks built by Nepals royal rulers in the 1800s and a UNESCO-recognized historical monument.

Try an earthquake, of this magnitude, and you are in a country, ostensibly as a tourist, no real knowledge of the language, or ways of escape, surrounded by chaos.
I happened to be living in the M.E., in a 7.4, [when 50,000 people were killed]
God help these people.
Even on a normal day, the best roads in Nepal will leave you breathless.
Update on Sergeant Linville:
“...Friends of Boise veteran Charlie Linville tell KTVB that the climber is safe. They say Linville is currently at the base camp on the Tibet side of the mountain range, though there have been some aftershocks and slides in that area, as well...”

Prayers up Sgt!
it really is an unimaginable crisis one cannot know without being in it. The terrain itself is sufficient to navigate without a quake of this magnitude and the ones following ...even the milder ones at 4. and frequency of... because they are running so shallow so the damage each time will increase their misery.
There were an estimated 300,000 tourists there when this quake hit.
It’s really like having another quake...and many believed that was happening. I have concerns even over the 4 and 5 after shocks as everything is so unstable and these quakes are shallow...which means much more destruction then if they ran deeper.
I posted the storms that are headed there...if they hit it’s going to create all sorts of additional issues for the rescue teams as well as the people....so many are on the streets living and the hospitals not only are overwhelmed but they are running out of room for the dead.
I saw that all of them who survuved are safe and evacuated I understand.
I saw what looked like a couple of young westerners assisting in debris clearing in one of your photos.
Bad news. Looks like brittle block structures which collapse.

BREAKING: At least 2,152 confirmed dead following massive earthquake in Nepal #NepalEarthquake - AP
Live: 22 dead, 217 missing in quake-triggered avalanche on Everest; toll 2300
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/international-home
......Much concern about all the many outlying villages which are vast in numbers....for most at best a 5 mile walk to the cities....reaching them will be difficult. Israel has been flying helicopters almost non-stop getting the injured to the hospitals from those areas...even then there are so many villages. ......he also reported that the aftershocks come often in groups, one after the other, so the people are very confused and frightened....they really weren't at all prepared for this quake so they don't know what to do.
......I am concerned for these storms pegged to come in Monday and Tuesday...with the temps at 30 and thousands outside the buildings....they will try to take shelter in unsafe areas with these after-shocks happening too. There will be more deaths and injuries.
There’s a lot of tourists there from all over the world Australia said they have concerned for just one group of 60, so might be some of them...
Try 2,500 deaths and climbing...from the dept of defense.
BTW Conflict News makes a lot of wrong calls I don’t use there stuff much, not that you can’t, I’m just saying I haven’t found their stuff very accurate.
It's still early and the rescue teams are barely getting started, many have not made it to the sites yet... let alone machinery to remove the rubble...so the death toll is going to go up considerably yet.
