A Texas police officer was following protocol Tuesday when he was caught on video throwing a drunk woman to the ground, knocking her unconscious, his police chief said.
On cell phone video, a witness captured Round Rock Officer Ben Johnson slamming the woman to the ground in front of her 6-year-old daughter in a strip mall parking lot. Viviana Keith, who was allegedly resisting arrest, hit her head on the pavement and was knocked out, KVUE reported Thursday.
Keith's mother and some witnesses to the incident have accused Johnson of using excessive force. But according to KVUE, Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks said the officer did everything right -- not only because Keith was resisting arrest, but because she'd been driving around with her daughter while clearly drunk.

She was an obvious threat to his safety, so slamming her to the ground was necessary. /s/
Is there a direct YouTube link? I’d rather not visit HuffPo.
Here’s another view in addition to the cell phone, plus some more background.

Thanks for posting the video link.
(I really didn’t want to go to HuffPo.)
I've never seen a GUY body slammed that way, and this is a less than physically capable, overweight female taken down unexpectedly from behind ... cold cocked, so to speak
It’s easier to cuff ‘em when they’re sleeping.
she was allegedly resisting arrest by refusing to relax her arms behind her back so that the cop could put handcuffs on. Her hands are behind her back but she sounds as if she is arguing with the cop about how she is doing it.
I think it's shameful that so many people are recording police violence. Don't they know that this makes police look like thugs who can get away with anything because they wear a badge? (What you say they ARE thugs who can get away with anything because they wear a badge?) Well don't you want them to go home to their families at night? or how about "We don't know the whole story" After all she MIGHT have "resisted" later and besides it's fun to hurt someone (if you're a cop) Our heroes are going to have to be more circumspect with their fun. What's the point of being a cop if you can beat or even kill people and get away with it?
He's just part of the 90% that give the other 10% a bad name
Another day, another out-of-control cop with management protection. Jail them all. Needs to be a stop to this abuse of citizenry.
Huff post, no thanks
Resisting arrest = consequences. Do NOT resist arrest. We are a nation without values. Once we have a dictator, it will be worse than this because people can not control themselves. What a downhill slide we are on. And then, you have people arguing FOR he woman. We're lost.
I’m surprised the cop didn’t shoot her 6 year old kid for crying, i.e. causing a public disturbance.
Did you watch the video? That was not resisting. She was talking talking to him. The cop got his testosterone up and felt the need to dominate.

Not necessarily true. Law enforcement has values. They value beating people who can't fight back and shooting people in the back.
It was clearly excessive force, a blind monkey would even notice that.
Here in Canada is no better, the majority are just people that like control and like to be bullies, while there is a small percentage that do police work out of a sense of duty.
I stand by what I posted.
she should not have resisted
The solution is known....... a sap
A good wrap on the head stops arrest resist
