Loretta Lynch, after being kept waiting in the wings by the Senate for five and a half months, was confirmed Thursday as the first African American woman to serve as Attorney General.
Lynch was approved 56-43, one of the narrowest margins in history for an attorney general nominee.
The vote ended an unusually partisan episode in modern Senate confirmation history, in which a largely uncontroversial nominee to one of the top cabinet posts was kept out of office for a lengthy period over issues extraneous to her job.

I’d like to say that this is the final straw, but I’ve already kicked the Vichy- Republicans to the curb.
Yes, the REAL vote is always to Invoke Cloture. Senators bank on most voters not having a clue as to what Cloture is.
I am SO disappointed in Thune and Rounds (So. Dak.)
It wouldn’t have mattered if Cruz had been there to vote no;the fix was in, there was a sufficient majority to confirm.

Your ire should be directed at the traitorous McConnell,Portman and others who voted for cloture, knowing confirmation was a sure thing.
I have plenty of ire for them. But Cruz is supposed to be the good guy. It sends a terrible message that he didn’t even bother to vote, “present.” These things matter. Cruz was supposed to be better than McConnell.
Pressure needs to be pout on Cruz for this betrayal. If he gets away with this he will go the way of all the supposedly conservative Senators. Do you want to vote for Cruz and end up with Orrin Hatch or Arlen Spector?

Thank you for posting the YouTube link to the complete remarks by Ted Cruz. The entire statement is quite moving and persuasive in delivering the case against Obama, Holder and Lynch (even more than the clip used at The Right Scoop). I’m obviously biased (see my tagline) but that was a spectacular job by Cruz on the Senate floor.
I bump your link to the attention of others. In my opinion, this is a must see video.

Ayotte of Red Hampshire knows how the Granite State people feel. It’s so sad Red Hampshire has so much influence on the nomination process for President.
Every GOP Senator who voted for her should be booted from office.
With friends like them, conservatives don’t need enemies.
Boot from them from office.
When they vote like Democrats - who needs them?
Nah, I know he’s not who I had hoped he would be. Still, it p*sses me off.
“I wonder how much well be reminded of this irrelevant fact over the next two years.”
No sh#t. So, SO tired of it! According to All Good Liberals Everywhere we are SUPPOSED to be color blind in ALL endeavors.
Sadly, their power base rests on agitation and fomenting racism.
I am SO ANGRY these days! Grrrrrrrrrr!
I know, he turned very quickly. I hope that you folks can find a candidate to primary him out!!
The good news is Eric “The Red” is gone, the bad news is Loretta Lynch is here.
Mandates only count when the dems win. The last election we had was a referendum on Obama’s policies and was a landslide against Obama. Yet we’re told that Obama has to be allowed to trample the Constitution because elections have consequences.
If elections really had consequences, we would not have the lawless thugocracy we have right now. The fact is that the system is broken because the checks and balances refuse to do their jobs. And absolute corruption is absolutely sure when power is unchecked.
Yes. And now it's locked up so no one can impede the Democrats! :-[
First, it was a foregone conclusion. Second, he had a flight home. He had made his opposition clear.
