Ted Cruz SLAMS Republican majority in the Senate for allowing Lynch nomination
The Right Scoop ^ | 4-23-2015 | The Right Scoop

Posted on 04/23/2015 9:03:51 AM PDT by sheikdetailfeather

On the Senate floor a few moments ago, Ted Cruz SLAMMED the new Senate Republican majority for refusing to block Loretta Lynch’s nomination to Attorney General. He said that the Republican majority could continue to block the nomination if they wanted to and it’s something he’s urged them to do do because of her admissions to run the DOJ in a lawless fashion just like Eric Holder.

He pointed out that more than a few voters are asking what is the difference between a Republican and Democratic Senate majority when someone promising the exact same lawlessness as Holder will be allowed to get confirmed. He says that’s something each Republican will have to explain to their constituents.

He also adds that not a single Republican can vote for such a nomination and be consistent with their oath of office to support and defend the Constitution.

Yes. Ted Cruz is first and Walker comes second in my book and that is unlikely to change. I did hear Walker make a good point in an interview on Fox the other day. He said everyone is wondering who can get the independents. His answer to getting the independents is that he got them in Wisconsin because he said who he is and backed it up with action. “Independents are who they are because they are fed up with being lied to by both parties.”

“Did he meet another exercise machine who didn’t like him ???”

And why hasn’t Dingy Harry gone to the Senate floor and demanded a federal recall of these exercise machines?

Thank you for posting the YouTube link to the complete remarks by Ted Cruz. The entire statement is quite moving and persuasive in delivering the case against Obama, Holder and Lynch (even more than the clip used at The Right Scoop). I'm obviously biased (see my tagline) but that was a spectacular job by Cruz on the Senate floor.

I bump your link to the attention of others. In my opinion, this is a must see video.

The mechanics of the Senate are important to understand in all this. There are two votes needed for her to gain the nomination. The first is to end debate. That is the "clouture" vote, which just took place. Typically cloture requries 60 votes. So, it's how you bottle something up that would pass with a small majority, as is the case with Lynch.

The people who want it both ways are the Senators who vote FOR cloture (thus allowing the measure to be voted on) and against the nomination (thus allowing them to go home and say that the voted against her nomination, when in fact their cloture vote was needed to allow the nomination to proceed.)

OK. Got it?

The Republican senators who voted to invoke cloture on the nomination were Lamar Alexander (Tenn.), Ayotte, Richard Burr (N.C.), Shelley Moore Capito (W.Va.), Thad Cochran (Miss.), Susan Collins (Maine), Bob Corker (Tenn.), John Cornyn (Texas), Jeff Flake (Ariz.), Cory Gardner (Colo.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Orrin Hatch (Utah), Ron Johnson (Wis.), Mark Kirk (Ill.), McConnell, Rob Portman (Ohio), Pat Roberts (Kan.), Mike Rounds (S.D.), John Thune (S.D.) and Thom Tillis (N.C.).

The vote was 66 for. It will be interesting to see what the vote for approval is. I've heard around 53. Which would mean that 9 of these GOPers are trying to have their cake and eat it too.

Good God I hope this guy is in it to win it, and not flake out like Herman Cain or Fred Thompson. I am sick of getting my hopes up, only to be rope a doped.

I’m too old for the promise of good sex only to be given punch in the scrotum.

Go Cruz Go!

He's a very good communicator. He's a fighter. These are great assets and might allow him to win if he can get the nomination.

After two candidates who refused to put forth arguments for their own election, and were constantly off balance and reacting to the media (and not doing a good job of it), I like Cruz because at least the other guy is going to know he/she was in a fight.

Having said that he has positions on Free Trade and Immigration that I don't like. He seems to have sort of the quasi-libertarian position on Free Trade - he's actually on the same side as Obama on that. (Opponents are on the same side as Elizabeth Warren, so the strange bedfellows rules apply.)

His proposal to increase H1B visas by 5X is truly brain dead.

He's still a politician with good and bad positions,

I don't have any problem with free trade as long as it's really is free trade. This is an important distinction. It's like people opposed to "deregulation" when they have no idea what it actually is, and have only seen the problems caused by re-regulation billed as deregulation. We do not have one real "free trade" agreement that I can think of.

His H1B visa platform is the only thing I think he is just plain wrong on. I think that he has based his opinion on false "facts" given to him by businesses that don't care about America.
