NEW YORK - Marco Rubio, the youthful Republican presidential hopeful who touts himself as the candidate of his party's future, has been making moves to court a socially liberal faction of his party that represents gay conservatives.
The Florida senator's staff have held quarterly meetings with the Log Cabin Republicans "going back some time", their executive director, Gregory Angelo, told Reuters. The meetings with the advocacy group were to discuss legislation, issues and opportunities to "partner on," Angelo said. Rubio's office declined to comment on the meetings.
The discussions highlight the tricky electoral math for Republican presidential aspirants like Rubio.
The Republican party will struggle to win the White House in 2016 if it relies only on the support of socially conservative voters....

No specifics in the article on these meetings...specific discussions, etc.
This is, imo, an article by the media designed to demoralize Republicans/conservatives.
I talk to gay people nearly every day of my life at work...doesn’t mean I don’t disagree with them or can’t find common ground with them. Talking isn’t a crime or politically incorrect.
While the media tries to crucify Republicans on social stuff, it ignores the Democrat party’s destruction of the social and economic fabric.
I am not interested in letting the media set the agenda.
In a few months if you are unwilling to torch Rubio in favor of the two favored here you’ll be labeled a heretic
And faggots will be lit.....
So good luck.....you’ll have my company
I never cared for this my way or the highway primary thing here
It will get very ugly but at least this time the favored candidate(s) are actually announced
Indeed, one might say that gay activists are to gays what femanazis are to women. We don't despise womankind because some bigmouth lesbians have been given a podium, a pulpit, and a microphone by our gatekeepers and we do not assume that all women are lesbians or are simply crazy.
if Rubio does this before the election, what will he do after the election when he doesn’t need votes ?
Is this guy completely unaware? Did he sleep through the entire week of liberal and gay activist hate mongering hysteria against Christians over Indiana recently? I’m sorry, but Rubio needs to be a little more nuanced on this issue, and show a little more respect for persecuted social conservatives. Toleration and common decency and respect for individuals is one thing, but any hint from a Republican that they are signing on to the intolerant, totalitarian, anti-Christian, anti-religious freedom agenda of the homosexualist left, then they are not anyone I would consider voting for.
Oh my.... I don’t even want to guess what that picture is supposed to represent.
Which is why it behoves all Republicans to engage in good faith, and not sneer at, the concerns of social conservatives. I believe Ronald Reagan was a good model — he wasn’t personnaly a very strict social conservative, but he understood and made accomodation for their legitimate concerns.
Re: Your Post #9: Excellent point; excellent. Thanks.
Well they are a feel good type bunch voting in today’s elections, emotionally charged at the drop of a hat...and everything in society feeds that.
So you may very well be correct....I’m just hopeful better “minds” might still prevail.
lol...
The boys been packing some loose stool.. rhetorically..
Rubio is Jeb’s stalking horse.
The more I learn about this guy, the less appealing he becomes.
For the life of me, I don’t see what other people see in Rubio. He’s just another GOPe immigration amnesty shill if you ask me—a veritable Jebbie Bush mini-me.
No thanks!
I used to think very highly of him before I found out about how he really views our illegal alien problem.
My personal view is that he won’t ever change that stance because he’s like many of our other RINOs and have given up on doing anything substantive about the millions we have here illegally - at a very dear financial and social cost, IMO.
The more and more he goes on in this run for office, the more to the left he will wander. This dalliance with the gay side is one. He is listening to his consultants, probably the same ones who consulted for past losers, too.
Unlike at least one of the others, he prefers to move left and poach votes from there when he could just as well double down on conservatism and get back some of those votes that stayed home in 2012. He also is turning his back on millions of legal immigrants who aren’t Hispanic and who might just have a big problem with amnesty and pathways.
I personally don’t think it’s wrong to listen to any group if you’re in the business of politics. It is when you let that group (a demographically very small but vocal one at that) dictate your significant platform policies on the QT that I have a problem. In the end, he loses conservatives, the Dem-hearted will still vote for Hillary, and he’ll have drop out when he can’t pay those consultants anymore. But look on the bright side, his consultants will still have gotten paid and will slither on off to the next gullible RINO.
The term “Gay Conservative” is an oxymoron.
