I never knew this about that poor girl. Now, not being very religious, how can God let this happen to anybody?

Men have free will. God does not guide men’s hands.

"... how can God let this happen to anybody?"

God didn't do this terrible deed, a demon, a man guided by Satan did the deed. God was there and I'm sure he gathered her soul in his loving arms and carried her to heaven.

> Now, not being very religious, how can God let this happen to anybody?

A very popular question, and a very valid one.

The simple answer is that people are given a free will. It is pointless to intercede in their actions, because the complete ugliness of sin cannot be revealed without seeing its consequences.

The life we live here in this “reality” is a supernatural process. The supernatural transcends the natural, and the suffering and terror are brief, in the greater scheme of things.

I understand that provides no comfort to a “naturalist”, but nature is not what you think it is.

Watch some of the series on Quantum Mechanics on youtube. You will begin to see the supernatural nature of our universe. Even though the physicists themselves refuse to see it, it is plain and right in front of them.

Remind me quick which religion teaches that God lets happen and is at fault for letting happen.

God’s not in charge on Earth. Not yet.

The most terrifying prayer in Christendom is the Lord’s Prayer:

‘Thy will be done,
On Earth as it is in Heaven.’

Let Your will prevail on Earth, is it always does in Heaven.

If God were ‘in charge’, and everyone were FORCED to play by the rules, you wouldn’t need that petition.

Free will, baby. You get to choose to love God, to live by His rules. God’s not a rapist.

Millions upon millions have asked that very question.

God doesn't “let” as in, have agency in it. Way back in the beginning, man decided he would wanted to have all the knowledge of God-be on par with God, even be God, himself. He lost his innocence and was given free will, just as God has. He wanted it, he got it. It's the unintended consequence of man trying to usurp God. God just let man have what he wanted. Unfortunately, man is not all-knowing, all-holy and all-just, as is God.

Free will. We are free to commit evil or good.

I’d like to recommend the Problem of Pain by CS Lewis. He discusses this and much more in the short book. Well worth reading for a very well thought out, detailed explanation.

Because this world is the domain of Satan. Refer to the Book of Job (1:7):

“And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

Questioning God is only natural however the creator wants you to for certain know one thing about him. That he loved you so much that he sent his only son to die for you personally. Ask all the questions you care to, just know that this is true.

“Now, not being very religious, how can God let this happen to anybody?”

From God’s point of view nothing happened to her. That is: nothing these savages did un-did what God had wrought. With their acts they signified their own evil, that is all. The same might be said of Hitler. Men can only sin, they CANNOT destroy anything.

And how can God let billions of souls burn in hell also right?
You’re pointing the finger at the wrong supernatural being.

If God prevents the wages of sin from being revealed, how can man ever know what the depravity of sin will cause?

Sin was allowed to remain for a reason. One day it will no longer exist. And when it no longer does, we’ll know every reason why.

Praise be to God.

Jesus died to redeem this woman.

Also, I believe his parents passed on when he was very young, and maybe tragically (IIRC). He and his sister were raised by his grand parents, I think.
