(CNN)Twenty years ago, on April 19, 1995, Timothy McVeigh detonated a massive truck bomb in front of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. The attack killed 168 men, women and children, injured hundreds more, and remains the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in U.S. history.
The attack's aftermath saw a storm of media coverage with themes such as "attack on the heartland" and America's "lost innocence." In fact, the bombing took the country by surprise. It wasn't simply the scale of the tragedy that drew attention, but the fact that the bombing exposed something new: American citizens targeting their own government with a deadliness hitherto unseen.
The public became aware of the true danger of the extreme right. Reports connected McVeigh and his accomplice Terry Nichols to anti-government ideology movements, such as the militia movement, as well as to white supremacist causes.

All the MSM wants is the right headline, ‘cause thats all most people ever read.
I wonder why no one ever considers the LGBT groups extremist terrorists networks?
MSM deflecting the Islamic Terrorist threat.
WHAT THREAT???? THE fbi HAD PAID INFORMANTS IN ELOHIM CITY AND knew exactly what mc veigh was planning.... to the extent of where and when.... SO WHO IS THE TERRORIST AND WHO NEEDS TO BE WATCHED...???
the fbi had a chechen paid informant who informed them of 9/11 ..... and we all the kinow the result... they did NOTHING
the fbi was warned 3 times by russia and seperately 3 times by saudi arabia about the Tsarnof brothers and did what????? NOTHING.... so i ask again WHO IS THE TERRORIST ???????
'Right Wing Extremists' with a twist of Islamic support, training, and logistics, maybe.
Turnabout is fair play, and I disagree with the government being ours. The current government isn't the one We the People agreed to, it belongs to, and is controlled by someone or some thing other than We the People.
And that is how the liberals really feel about all the right, not the "extreme"
I read the whole article at the link, and now feel ill!
Did not more people die at Waco? Oh and BTW, there have been no more Wacos after OK city.
Waco was about 80, around half of OK.
There are always a lot of false news reports after a big event. Reporters have such urgency to report anything they can, first, that they repeat unsubstantiated stories and rumors. It happens after every such event.
Waco, the Oklahoma City Bombing, and TWA Flight 800 ALL had investigations that were massive government cover ups manipulation of the facts. The FIRST thing he should have done after removing his hand from the Bible during his swearing-in was announce unbiased investigations of each. I have no idea why he didn't other than one or more of them would have lead to exposing failures that occurred during his father's presidency.
The middle easterners that were let into the country uncontrolled after the first Gulf War undoubtedly had a huge amount to do with the Oklahoma City bombing. And they were let in under GHWB’s administration.
It's not mentioned much because most of it is from the left. For instance:
That is only if one believes that TWA 800 was not a terrorist act. I think it probably was. There were 230 people on that flight.
The public became aware of the true danger of the extreme right left.
The definition they are using (in this article at least) is US citizens perpetrating the acts. Do you believe that to be the case with respect to TWA 800?
The Bush’s connection and support of the Saudi royalty was very substantial and beyond the understanding of many if not practically all US citizens. Why is a question that needs an answer.
I just love when the press and others use personal pronouns for this illegitimate, banana republic and worse, “government.” None of these criminals, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of worthless seat-fillers, work for us anymore. It’s not “my,” “our,” “their” or any other “government” that has anything to do with me, or what this country used to be.
What a strange, twisted article! Completely ignores the violent left of the 70’s and 80’s (Weathermen, Panthers, etc., etc.). Focuses on an incident that had nothing to do with ideology (McVeigh’s revenge bombing in Oak city and on another incident that was essentially provoked by out of control fed agents (Weaver). Ignors the fact that in both these incidents excesses by the feds went unpunished.
There are some simple facts that those who champion the right-wing line about the OKC Bombing always seem to forget.
The government had three inside informants at Elohim City alone.
The government was given the name of two or three targets. The government failed to take measures to stop the attack.
The government was warned and given enough information to stop the attack.
Strangely, some folks knew there was something big about to happen also. Shortly after the bombing people started surfacing that had been told to stay away from the area on the morning of the bombing.
There is an Asian connection. There is a German connection. There is likely a Middle-East connection.
Timothy McVeigh got what he deserved. I fully agree with that. Isn’t it interesting how fast he could be executed for trying to kill government workers, but how impossible it is to execute someone if it’s only one of us poor peons who is killed.
OKC was one of seven things that caused me to NEVER trust our own government and free press again.
The Clinton crime syndicate
The Weaver Incident at Ruby Ridge
Waco and the subsequent government lies
The OKC Bombing
TWA Flight 800
Barach Hussein Obama, Americas Traitor in Chief
Congressional inaction against treasonous treachery
