Oregon sheriff says proposed gun background-check law won't be enforced

An Oregon sheriff said Tuesday that he will not enforce an upcoming state law that expands gun background checks to include private sales, The Herald and News reported.
Sheriff Dave Daniel, from Josephine County, which sits on the border with California, told the paper that it appears that the law is not in line with the county’s charter and said he does not have the personnel to pursue violators committing a misdemeanor.

The previous Sheriff, Gil Gilkerson fought the feds (BLM and USFS) tooth and nail. I'm not familiar with the new Sheriff Daniel but he speaks the truth about being undermanned.
From the Sheriff's website:
The Patrol Division is currently budgeted for 1 Deputy and 1 Sergeant who patrol rural Josephine County 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. This Sergeant is also responsible for supervision of all Patrol Contract positions.
Due to budget and staffing cute, deputies are currently ONLY RESPONDING TO IN PROGRESS, LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCIES.
Our Patrol Area includes:

- Wolf Creek
- Williams
- Wonder
- Wilderville
- Cave Junction
- O'Brien

I would rather the laws be written so they could be observed. In this case, I’m glad they weren’t.
